In Administrative Operations we are committed to safely and reliably serving our campus customers and supporting both the University's day-to-day operations and the strategic vision for the future. This means we provide everything from University purchasing and contracts, new construction and renovation of existing campus facilities, landscaping, custodial services, public safety, utilities and more for the Purdue community.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience Needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, technology, or related field required
  • Six (6) years of experience in utilities generation and/or distribution desired
    • Experience with electrical utility equipment
    • Experience conducting root cause analysis
    • Experience with NFPA 70, NESC, IEEE Power and Energy, and other applicable standards
    • Ability to interpret P&IDs, electrical , and equipment arrangement drawings
  • A valid driver's license
Preferred:

  • Registered Professional Engineer or ability to be registered

Skills Needed:

  • Desire to learn, grow, and contribute to E&U success
  • Knowledge of project management/engineering best practices is required
  • Good:
    • planning and organizational skills
    • verbal and written communications skills
    • interpersonal skills for collaborative work with customers, clients, and other entities and organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a liaison between multiple parties
  • Ability to:
    • evaluate and solve complex technical problems utilizing creativity and ingenuity
    • work under pressure and meet critical deadlines
    • produce project justifications
  • Office and engineering computer skills with the ability to learn new computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, electrical power analysis software, generative artificial intelligence, process historian databases
  • Exposed to heat, noise, dust, and hazardous areas around machinery, chemicals, etc. in utility plants and utility distribution infrastructure
  • Must be able to:
    • climb stairs, ladders, and work from heights of up to 100 feet
    • enter equipment manholes and confined spaces
Preferred:

  • Thorough knowledge in the functional operation of a Power Plant, as well as engineering consultation
  • Proven understanding of electrical engineering design and construction techniques as they relate to power plants and utilities distribution
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations
