The clinical assistant program is a unique opportunity for pre-med students to get a first-hand experience of working directly with patients. This program is developed specifically to prepare pre-med students who are pursuing a medical career. The roles in this position will include tasks of a medical assistant, scribe, patient care coordination and medical record management. In these roles, you can expect first hand clinical exposure to a vast array of GI and allergic/immunological conditions and begin to develop an understanding of their medical management. This direct patient contact will help to develop appropriate skills for communication in patient education and involvement in the coordination of their care. Upon completion of this training program, one could expect to have developed a better sense of professionalism in medicine, strong work ethics, improved skills in effective communication, and an appreciation for the patient/physician relationship. From an educational standpoint you should expect to be charged with reading, research projects, case discussions/presentations and regular weekly staff meetings. You will also have the benefit of direct mentorship from Dr. Leung, who is the only dual board certified gastroenterologist and allergist in the United States, with whom you will work very closely each day. Structured training will be provided. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for anyone embarking on a medical career. Most current gap year students have publications, and participation in clinical research is offered to students who demonstrate interest and capability.
Two-Year Program: Upon successful completion of one year in the program, clinical assistants will become eligible for expanded learning opportunities, including:
- Involvement in clinical research projects with the opportunity to co-author peer-reviewed publications, present posters, and/or lead independent research projects.
- Opportunities to assist with Endoscopic procedures as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
- Additional benefits, such as salary adjustments and additional paid time off.
These opportunities will only be available to individuals who make a two-year commitment, and will be tailored to the individual's professional interests and the evolving needs of the clinic.

1) Only applicants with GPA > 3.8 and MCAT >515 by start of employment encouraged to apply. Applicants who can commit to two-years are not required to take the MCAT before applying.

- Two-year commitment: You are not required to have taken the MCAT before applying. However, please indicate in your cover letter when you plan to take the exam.

Pay: $21.00 - $30.00 per hour
