About the Role
The Shelter Staff at Boston Rescue Mission provide direct care and primary service delivery to shelter guests. This includes supporting admissions, triage, bed assignments, meal coordination, hygiene assessments, and transportation coordination in the event of reached capacity. All Shelter Staff collaborate as a team to ensure timely and efficient support to shelter guests, appropriately responding to various needs as they arise.
At the heart of all interactions with BRM donors, guests, and volunteers, the Shelter Staff are integral to cultivating an environment that establishes respect and acceptance of all individuals. Responsibilities
- Facilitate admission of guests, documenting name, date of birth, and social security number whenever possible
- Conduct shift set-up and preparation tasks, including accurately maintaining all necessary shelter resources (rosters, bedsheets, cot set-up procedures, towels, universal precaution supplies, etc.)
- Conduct thorough safety checks through each floor of the building to provide oversight and direct care to guests as needed
- Conduct random searches of guests’ belongings and garments for contraband, as well as redirect disputes by conducting calm and professional conflict resolution; this role is integral to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all staff and guests
- Assist all guests with personal hygiene needs as they arise (providing towels, soap, shampoo, etc.)
- Encourage optimal communication via clear and professional verbal, written, and telephone forums, ensuring timely communication with all relevant team members and the Senior Case Manager.
- Employ the least restrictive means of intervention in all interactions with guests to provide a clear and welcoming environment for all shelter guests
- Alert appropriate case management staff in a timely manner to assist with clinical needs as they arise

· Compensation: $18-$22 hourly rate, commensurate with experience

*This is a fully in-person position at BRM’s shelter site in downtown Boston.
