POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Staff Accountant will be primarily responsible for managing the full-cycle accounts payable process for Fenway Sports Group’s corporate entities, ensuring vendor invoices, expense reimbursements, and payments are processed accurately, efficiently, and on time. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounts Payable
- Process vendor invoices accurately and timely, ensuring proper GL coding, approvals, and adherence to company policy.
- Match invoices to receiving documentation and resolve discrepancies with vendors and internal departments.
- Prepare and process weekly check runs and ad hoc wire payments.
- Maintain vendor master data, collect W-9s, and ensure 1099 reporting compliance.
- Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve payment discrepancies professionally and promptly.
- Review and process employee expense reports for policy compliance.
- Identify and help implement process improvements that increase efficiency and strengthen internal controls within AP and accounting operations.
- Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations as part of the monthly close process, with an emphasis on cash accounts.
- Calculate accruals and maintain prepaid expense schedules.
- Assist with intercompany transactions and reconciliations across FSG entities.
- Coordinate with FP&A team to align on short-term cash flow forecasts based on vendor payment timing expectations and provide Budget to Actual variance explanations and other ad hoc requests.
- Prepare certain monthly internal operational reporting packages (vendor payments approvals, expense reporting, etc.).
- Assist with the preparation of external reporting requests (investors government agencies).
- Work with the tax team on federal and state tax compliance by maintaining tax records, compliance calendars, and state tax notice trackers.
- Assist with preparing tax workpapers, returns, extensions, and estimated payments across multiple entities as well as reconciling tax-related accounts and supporting month-end and quarter-end tax entries.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of accounts payable and/or general accounting experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; ERP system experience (e.g., NetSuite preferred).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial information.
