School Overview

Greater Egleston High School is a Boston Public Pilot School serving approximately 125 students in grades 9–12. Located in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, the school was originally established as a community-based initiative to support students in need of alternative pathways to academic success.

We serve students ages 16–21 who are seeking an alternative to a traditional high school setting. Our programming supports motivated students who are overage and under-credited in accelerating their progress toward a high school diploma through a semesterised schedule, rolling admissions, and tiered systems of support. With small class sizes capped at 15, each student receives holistic guidance through personalized advisories. We emphasize "leaving to learn" through regular field trips, college immersion experiences, internships, and postsecondary career exploration.

Leave to Learn Program

Through our Leave to Learn program we give students the opportunity to personalize their learning and embed it in the context of the real world. Students go out into the "Real World" on Wednesdays to participate in community service, internships, field trips, workshops, panel discussions, interviews, etc. On other days students practice “Real Life Skills” during advisory such as Financial Literacy, Social Emotional Awareness, restorative practices, post secondary planning and digital literacy and research.
