Health Promotions Coordinator, ETTH Grant (SY26-27)

BACKGROUND

The Office of Health and Wellness (OHW), leads the district's efforts to address health inequities that interfere with academic success by increasing the quantity and improving the quality of health education, physical education, physical activity, and social-emotional learning in schools, improving staff wellness, and creating a healthier school environment in which the healthy choice is the easy choice. 

In a district-wide, strategic effort to address health inequities that interfere with academic success, the Boston Public Schools (BPS) Office of Health and Wellness (OHW) receives funding from the Center for Disease Control for the Empowering Teens Through Health (ETTH) Grant.  The ETTH grant aims to improve the behaviors and experiences of middle and high school students and reduce disparities in sexual risk behavior, substance use, experience of violence, poor mental health, and suicidality by supporting schools to deliver high-quality health education, increase access to needed health services, including behavioral and mental health services, create safe and supportive school environments. 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Health Promotions Coordinator for the ETTH Grant resides in the Office of Health and Wellness within the Academic division of the Boston Public Schools, reporting to the Wellness Council Support Manager.  The Health Promotions Coordinator is responsible for supporting and overseeing project activities to advance the mission of the grant and the priorities of OHW. The position will coordinate the development of materials, services, training opportunities, and meetings. The Health Promotions Coordinator will liaise with other departments and agencies to share support and resources with schools. Finally, the Health Promotions Coordinator will work closely with the Survey Grant Coordinator to oversee other grant tasks including grant programmatic reporting and facilitating meetings across BPS departments and community partners. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Health Campaigns and Promotions

• Plan, develop/adapt, and disseminate health campaigns and communications for grant project areas (e.g. campaigns for Condom Accessibility Teams, sexual health, mental health, substance misuse,  and others aligned with the grant strategies) that can be implemented in schools across the district.
• Maintain an e-library of resources related to health and wellness that school staff can access
• Adapt, develop, and promote materials that increase awareness of internal and external health and wellness resources for students, families, and school staff

Support Building School Capacity 

• Coordinate professional development and provide technical assistance to school-based staff related to access to youth-friendly in-school and community health resources and services.
• Ensure school staff have access to supplies and resources to successfully implement grant activities along with guidance and information on how to promote campaign effectively at the individual school level
• Assist the Data & Evaluation Manager in collecting Health Services grant reporting data

Student and Family Engagement

• Coordinate and facilitate the ETTH Youth Advisory Board and support the development of student-led health campaigns for the district
• Support the development of materials for student and family engagement across the grant project areas
• Develop and update materials and  templates that schools can use when engaging with families about grant project areas

Collaboration & Reporting

• Coordinate meetings with the Health Education, Health Services, and Safe and Supportive Environment grant leads and partners to discuss and plan health promotion-related activities.

• Support the grant leadership team and assist with additional grant efforts as needed
• Report grant activities monthly and support with grant evaluations

The Health Promotions Coordinator will perform other duties as needed. 

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:

• Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Health Communications, or a related field 
• 1-2 years of related work experience
• An understanding of adolescent health and disease prevention, including sexual health 
• Proficiency with Google Suite applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.) and Canva 
• Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail, flexibility to prioritize various projects, and demonstrated ability to maintain confidential records
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Experience with project management, communication planning, and health promotions
• Experience with digital communications and social media
• Experience working with diverse, multicultural youth
• Ability to analyze complex problems and propose appropriate solutions
• Ability to work as part of an active team and professionally represent division to partners both within and outside of the BPS
• Enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced environment and flexibility in performing multiple duties that apply to the success of the various grant initiatives
• An understanding of the principles of equity at multiple levels (e.g., racial, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, health, ability) and the need for antiracist policies and practices in public education.
• A deeply held belief in the overarching mission of public education and enthusiasm for public service. 
• Current authorization to work in the United States

QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:

• Masters Degree in Public Health, Health Communications, or a related field
• Familiarity with Boston and Boston Public Schools
• Experience with evaluation of health communication campaigns and grant reporting
• Experienced with providing high-quality, interactive workshops professional development tailored to meet the needs of the priority audience
• Experienced with planning youth programs and services
• Ability to collaborate with non-governmental organizations (NGO) and community based organization (CBO) to promote evidence-based activities and programs
• Experience implementing policy, systems, or environmental methods to address adolescent sexual health
