What are the responsibilities and job description for the Personal Assistant position at Boston Personal Assistant?
Boston Personal Assistant is a boutique lifestyle concierge serving individuals and families across Greater Boston for over 16 years. We specialize in errand-running, household management, executive support, and creative problem-solving — anything that makes our clients' lives easier. No two days look the same: one afternoon you might be coordinating a home renovation, the next you're picking up dry cleaning, prepping for a dinner party, or booking a last-minute trip to Lisbon.
We don't do cookie-cutter. Every client gets a tailored approach, and our team-based model means you're never on an island — you're part of a tight-knit crew that backs each other up and gets things done together.
A note: we're not a placement agency. You'd be joining our firm and serving multiple clients alongside our team.
About the RoleWe're hiring a full-time Personal Assistant with strong administrative chops to support daily client work and help drive internal projects alongside our executive team. This is not an entry-level position — we're looking for someone with a few years of professional experience who still has a sincere willingness to roll up their sleeves when the moment calls for it.
This role has real growth potential. We plan to promote from within to our management team in the next six months, and the right person here is a strong candidate for that path.
Most of our work happens during weekday business hours, primarily in downtown Boston (Back Bay and South End especially), with occasional evening or weekend needs. This is an in-person role — not remote.
What You'll Actually DoA sampling, never a complete list:
- Errands of every variety — grocery, dry cleaning, tailor, cobbler, returns and exchanges, postal shipments
- Household management — organization, light cleaning, laundry (yes, laundry — we mean it), meal prep and delivery, floral arrangements
- Vendor coordination — home repairs, project management, waiting on deliveries and service appointments
- Calendar management, scheduling, contact maintenance, bill paying
- Travel research and booking
- Event planning, holiday prep, gift sourcing and wrapping
- Pet care, occasional child care, house sitting
- Relocation support and general "life reassembly"
- Internal project work supporting our exec team
- Self-directed. This role doesn't report to an office. You'll provide your own structure, manage your time, and juggle priorities that shift constantly.
- Perceptive. You notice things. You learn client preferences quickly and start anticipating needs before they're voiced. (Actual mind-reading not required, but appreciated.)
- Solution-oriented. You'd rather figure it out than punt it. When something's hard, weird, or unfamiliar, you find a way through.
- Energetic and on-the-go. You like motion. Sitting still all day isn't your thing.
- Polite, professional, and warm. You communicate clearly, adapt to different personalities, and genuinely enjoy helping people — clients and teammates alike.
- Good at life. No specific degree or industry background required. What matters is that you have a few years of "adulting" under your belt, varied skills and interests, and the resourcefulness to draw on all of it.
- A valid driver's license and consistent access to a reliable vehicle
- Ability to pass a thorough background check
- Excellent spoken and written English, plus a strong sense of professional etiquette
- Comfort working independently and self-managing
- Physical capability — able to lift 30 lbs, climb several flights of stairs, and not mind getting your hands dirty
- A functional computer with reliable internet, capable of running Dropbox and a full version of Microsoft Office (phones, tablets, and Chromebooks won't cut it)
$30/hour
