About Us
Boston Networks is a Managed IT Services Provider (MSP) specializing in all-inclusive technology outsourcing for small and mid-sized businesses. We deliver proactive IT support, security, and compliance solutions primarily through our remote Help Desk. Our staff provides support for customers from our office in Stoneham, MA, and onsite at our customers' locations throughout the greater Boston area.
Position Overview
The primary responsibility of this role is assisting our customers with architecting networks both locally and in the cloud. We strive for networks that are reliable, cost-effective, and meet our clients' security needs. The position requires occasional travel to customer sites, both in the Boston area and throughout the US, for installation and maintenance of computer networks.
This role will also serve as the highest escalation point for networking issues from the helpdesk or other engineers as well as:
- Site surveys for new and existing clients
- Architecting new or existing networks using best practices
- Assisting with onboarding and documenting existing infrastructure
As an MSP, we value diverse skillsets. As a secondary responsibility, this role would ideally provide support for server configurations for our on prem and cloud based clients.
Required Attributes
- At least 5 years experience in IT Networking required
- Solid customer service skills via email, over the phone, or in person. We are a customer service company that deals with technology. Friendly and professional communications are essential to building and maintaining strong relationships with our clients and vendors
- Positive attitude and approach to technical issues and challenges. The right attitude is everything
- Self starter who is able to prioritize and execute multiple projects and tasks with a focus on timely and accurate results

- Ability to assess, document and understand existing network configurations and equipment on various brands of network equipment
- Deep understanding of best Cyber-Security practices such as network segmentation
- Working knowledge and understanding of firewalls, switches, and WiFi solutions including configuration and troubleshooting methods
- Ability to configure and troubleshoot various types of VPN connections
- Thorough understanding of switching protocols (VLANs, trunking, STP, POE, etc.)
- Thorough understanding of network monitoring, alerting and automation
- Detail oriented, particularly when it comes to network configuration creation and management, documentation, and cable management
- Experience with infrastructure documentation, including generating and updating network infrastructure diagrams with tools such as Visio, Autodesk, etc.
- Solid understanding of Azure Networking concepts and practices. Such as Azure Firewalls, NSG's, and ExpressRoutes.
- Expert understanding of common networking concepts such as: WAN, LAN, VLAN, IP addressing and Subnets, DHCP, DNS, IPS, VPN, NAT, VoIP, Remote access methods and general network security best practices
- Ability to design and manage WiFi networks from various vendors, mostly Sophos and Meraki
- Willingness and ability to travel. Some on site visits can also span several days and require air travel
Additional Preferred Skills
- Previous MSP experience is strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems including Server Operating Systems and server hardware
- Cisco CCNA or CCNP Certification
- Experience with Fortinet, Sophos, Meraki, and Cisco
Other Requirements
- Local, with reliable transportation for daily commutes to the Boston Networks office in Stoneham, as well as client sites (we reimburse for business travel mileage)
- While not frequent, occasional participation in occasional off-hours assignments
- Ability to physically install network equipment including firewalls, switches, UPS battery units, wireless access points, cable management etc
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Pay: $100, $120,000.00 per year
