POSITION SUMMARY:
The Population Health Analytics team sits at the center of BMC Health System's strategy, supporting the health system to accurately measure performance, understand key drivers, and identify new opportunities. This includes collaborating with clinical and operational leaders to design the right metrics, dashboards, and analyses, as well as developing insights that will inform critical decisions by senior leadership.
The Population Health Analytics Director will play a key role on this team, leading analyses that will guide strategy, investigate performance drivers, and shape the future of our health system. The Analytics Director will be expected to lead between 4-6 'verticals' within the Analytics team (e.g., Complex care management, medical expense management, pharmacy, behavioral health, housing, management of ACO analytics relationships) and manage others both within the team and in other parts of the organization. This is a highly visible role, working closely with both Population Health team internally at BMC and with our 8 ACO partners externally to understand and address their analytics needs.
We are looking for a Population Health Analytics Director to join our Population Health Analytics team. Under the System's Executive Vice President, Alastair Bell, the Population Health Analytics team works closely with senior leadership and stakeholders across the system to implement change.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Key responsibilities
- Lead the Population Health Analytics team - build out team, manage team performance, set inclusive team culture. Create opportunities for team members to grow professionally and achieve impact. Support team as they:
- Manage key data operations projects such as bi-monthly ACO roster/risk score generation, ADT data feeds to JVs/sites, integration with analytics vendors
- Build reporting/dashboarding capabilities more broadly, including approaches to build and automate reports in Tableau
- Understand health system data sources (plan and clinical) and support data architecture team to ensure that data is clean, normalized, and accurate
- Liaise with clinical departments at BMC and at WellSense for reports to develop targeted analytics to improve ACO performance or meet department objectives (e.g., reduce system leakage; improve specialty pharmacy performance; improve medical expense performance)
- Design, build, and maintain tableau dashboards focused on priority initiatives (eg readmissions reduction, low acuity ED)
- Translate complex analysis into simple visualizations that can communicate key takeaways to leaders and stakeholders
- Manage multiple projects and analyses simultaneously while meeting key deadlines and deliverables, and prioritizing time and resources
- Manage a team of 4-6 managers and analysts
- Build out documentation of key business processes and data standards; develop automation when appropriate
- Develop and maintain a catalog of reporting shared with ACO partners, inclusive of work performed by the team and administrative reporting produced by IT and Finance
- Lead problem solving among the team and with other leaders across the system to understand drivers and clarify best path forward
- Present insights from analyses and make recommendations on action to senior leaders and ACO partners and provider sites
- Establish governance and prioritization processes for Population Health, including a method to allocate analyst resources to projects
- Manage "client" relationships across Population Health and clinical teams (e.g., ACO operations team, care management teams, Pharmacy) and the health plan
- Deepen working relationship between Analytics and IT

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's Degree; MBA or advanced degree required
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

EXPERIENCE:
- Consulting, Finance, or Analytics experience. At least 7 years of business experience leveraging analytics, with at least 3 years managing an analytics team in a healthcare environment. Experience independently leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Ability to lead team and lead across matrixed teams
- Manages effectively under stress
- Confidence and adaptability to tackle complex and unstructured problems
- Positive attitude and willingness to own all aspects of a project

- Top-tier skills in Excel, PowerPoint required. Experience in programming languages (SQL, SAS, R) required. Experience in Business Intelligence software (e.g., Tableau) preferred.
