Description
Clinical and research fellow working directly with the Neurosurgery Department across two major academic hospitals. Responsibilities include perioperative patient management, operative assistance, neurocritical care, and participation in ongoing clinical and translational research projects. Work is performed under the supervision of attending neurosurgeons in cranial, spine, and neuro-ICU services.
Clinical Responsibilities
-Conduct neurosurgical consultations in the ED, ICU, and inpatient floors
-Participate in daily rounds and multidisciplinary care discussions
-Assist in the OR with cranial and spine procedures
-Manage postoperative patients, including neurologic assessments and acute events
-Coordinate care between neurosurgery, neurocritical care, anesthesia, and trauma teams
-Interpret imaging (CT, MRI) and contribute to preoperative planning
Neurocritical Care & ICU Exposure
-Work alongside NCCU, MICU, and SICU teams
-Manage critically ill neurosurgical and neurologic patients
-Perform bedside neurologic evaluations and guide escalation of care
Research & Academic Work
-Develop systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and case series
-Prepare manuscripts and conference presentations
-Conduct literature reviews and data collection for departmental projects
-Collaborate with faculty on ongoing spine, cranial, and neurocritical care research
Educational Involvement
-Participate in resident teaching conferences, M&M, Grand Rounds, and journal clubs
-Engage in hands-on training sessions in operative techniques, anatomy, and simulation
