As an Academic Support Professional, you will work closely with special education teachers to support engaging, individualized instruction and help students reach their learning goals.
Position Overview
The Academic Support Professional assists classroom teachers in meeting the academic and developmental needs of students with ASD. This role contributes to a wide range of instructional, behavioral, and classroom support activities that enrich student learning and promote success.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional & Classroom Support

Collaborate with lead teachers to understand daily responsibilities and instructional priorities

Provide individual and small-group instructional support aligned with IEP goals and classroom lessons

Assist teachers with gathering assessment data to monitor student progress

Support preparation of materials for MCAS Alternate Assessments, including organizing documentation and work samples

Prepare lesson materials, bulletin boards, classroom displays, and instructional resources as directed
Student Care & Engagement

Provide direct care, behavioral support, and individualized assistance as needed

Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, gymnasiums, and during field trips

Participate fully in Daily Life Therapy activities, including physical exercise such as lifting, standing, squatting, and jogging one to three miles daily

Serve as a positive role model and supportive presence for students throughout the school day
Professional Practice & Collaboration

Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues to support student learning and classroom success

Participate in schoolwide events and community activities

Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to all school policies

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Curriculum or other supervisors
Qualifications
Required

Bachelor’s degree in a related field

Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills

Ability to take direction and work collaboratively with teachers and supervisors

Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment

High energy level, physical stamina, and comfort working in an active school setting
