What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Restoration Technician position at Boston Harbor Water Restoration?
Lead Restoration Technician
Boston Harbor Water Restoration
When someone's property floods, suffers water damage, or experiences a disaster, they need help immediately.
That's where we come in.
Boston Harbor Water Restoration helps homeowners and businesses recover from property damage by stabilizing the situation quickly and rebuilding what was lost.
This job isn't just about demolition or drying equipment.
It's about solving problems, taking ownership, and leading a job from first call to final walkthrough.
We're looking for a Lead Restoration Technician who can run a job site autonomously — someone who doesn't need to be told what to do next, because they already know.
What You'll Do
Restoration jobs move quickly and require someone who can take charge, make decisions, and see a project through without hand-holding.
In this role, you'll own multiple aspects of the restoration process from start to finish.
Emergency Response
- Respond to emergency calls for water damage and property disasters
- Assess the situation and make the call on scope and approach
- Stabilize the property and prevent further damage
- Set up drying equipment and containment
Job Leadership
- Run point on assigned jobs from intake through completion
- Perform and direct demolition of damaged materials
- Oversee mitigation work and job site setup
- Keep the job moving and make real-time calls when issues come up
Client Interaction
- Scope restoration projects independently
- Sign new jobs on-site with confidence
Documentation
- Independently manage documentation — photos, notes, and job records — without oversight
- Ensure every project is properly and thoroughly documented for insurance and internal tracking
- Catch documentation gaps before they become a problem down the line
What Success Looks Like
Successful Lead Technicians in this role:
- Take full ownership of a job with minimal supervision
- Solve problems on-site without waiting for direction
- Maintain high job quality while moving efficiently
- Communicate clearly with clients and keep the office informed
- Document thoroughly enough that anyone could pick up the file and understand the job
- Step in wherever needed to move the job forward
This role is for someone who likes to hustle, take ownership, and lead.
A Day in the Life
A typical day might include:
- Responding to an emergency water damage call and taking the lead on-site
- Extracting water and setting up drying equipment
- Directing demolition of damaged materials
- Documenting the entire job independently — photos, notes, records
- Loading equipment and prepping for the next call
Some days are calm. Some days are chaotic.
You'll often work longer hours during emergencies, but those who thrive in this role enjoy the fast pace and the autonomy that comes with it.
This Role Is NOT For You If
- You prefer slow, predictable workdays
- You don't like physical work
- You need someone else to tell you what to do next
- You'd rather follow than lead
This role requires initiative, urgency, ownership, and accountability.
Requirements
- Proven experience running restoration jobs independently — not just assisting
- Strong hands-on experience performing restoration demolition
- Confident and thorough with job documentation systems — able to manage it without being reminded
- Willing to respond to after-hours calls, nights, and weekends
- Strong leadership instincts and the judgment to make calls in the field
- Strong work ethic and a track record of reliability
Compensation
We reward people who take ownership and lead the way when emergencies happen.
Compensation includes:
- Competitive base pay, commensurate with experience running jobs independently
- 1.5x overtime pay for hours over 40
- 401k with company match
Because restoration work often involves emergencies, Lead Technicians frequently earn significant overtime.
