Job Description:The Boston Globe is hiring an experienced reporter to focus on Vermont and northern New England, with a focus on stories related to the northern border.They should have a digital-first mindset, strong reporting and writing skills, an understanding of SEO, a hearty appetite for news and, ideally, a passion for and knowledge of Vermont.The ideal candidate should possess a high metabolism and strong initiative. They should be curious, creative, and enterprising, willing to explore angles, ask questions, and connect with sources for ideas to pitch every day. They should be able to confirm information and write quickly for publication online, and work well as part of a driven, innovative team.Responsibilities:Report and write news and feature stories each day on topics including immigration, border issues, the environment and politicsDistill complex subjects, reports, and data into readable articles on tight deadlinesDigitally produce these stories for publication on bostonglobe.com and help promote them on social media.Cooperate and collaborate with the rest of the Globe team in covering breaking news events and on enterprise projectsMonitor analytics and metrics to surface trends and hone our coverage of Rhode Island news.Qualifications: At least 3-5 years experience as a journalist at a major market or publicationAbility to write clean, compelling copy on tight deadlinesAppetite for writing stories on a variety of topics each dayAbility to write deeply reported enterprise storiesDigitally savvy and familiar with audience analyticsCurious, creative, and eager to exploreAn eye for good stories that transcend locationMultimedia experience – especially in audio, video, and social media-based storytelling – is a plusA willingness to adapt and be audience focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment Please submit examples of your work (clips, links to online content, or a link to your digital portfolio) along with a cover letter when you apply.The hourly rate for this role is $38.41 - $61.53.This position is a union position covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Boston Newspaper Guild.It is unlawful in Massachusetts to require or administer a lie detector test as a condition of employment or continued employment.
