The Safety, DOT Compliance, and Fleet Manager is responsible for ensuring the company maintains the highest standards of safety, regulatory compliance, and fleet performance. This position oversees all safety initiatives, manages Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance programs, and directs fleet operations to ensure company vehicles and drivers operate efficiently, legally, and safely. The role requires strong knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation regulations, along with the ability to build and sustain a strong safety culture.

This position oversees all safety initiatives, manages Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance programs, and directs fleet operations to ensure company vehicles and drivers operate efficiently, legally, and safely. The role requires strong knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation regulations, along with the ability to build and sustain a strong safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain workplace safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct safety training sessions, including new-hire orientation and ongoing driver/employee safety education.
- Perform accident investigations and root-cause analyses; recommend corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Track and analyze safety performance metrics; prepare reports and recommend improvements.
- Lead Safety Committee meetings and promote a strong safety culture across all operations.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable workplace safety regulations.
- Ensure company compliance with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and DOT requirements.
- Oversee driver qualification files, background checks, drug and alcohol testing, medical certifications, and annual reviews.
- Manage driver hours-of-service (HOS) and electronic logging device (ELD) programs.
- Monitor CSA (Compliance, Safety, Accountability) scores and implement corrective measures to maintain compliance.
- Prepare for and manage DOT audits, inspections, and investigations.
- Stay current on regulatory changes and communicate updates to leadership and drivers.
- Oversee the acquisition, maintenance, and disposal of company vehicles and equipment.
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and maximize fleet life cycles.
- Manage relationships with service providers, leasing companies, and fuel vendors.
- Monitor fleet performance metrics, including utilization, fuel consumption, repair costs, and downtime.
- Ensure vehicles meet all DOT, state, and local inspection and registration requirements.
- Recommend fleet upgrades or replacements to improve safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Transportation, Logistics, Business, or related field (preferred but not required).
- 5 years of experience in safety management, DOT compliance, or fleet management (combination acceptable).
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, OSHA standards, and DOT compliance programs.
- Experience conducting safety training and accident investigations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage fleet operations, including preventive maintenance and vendor relationships.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with fleet management systems, ELD platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must have valid driver’s license to travel between store and DC locations.
- Strong attention to detail and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to influence and foster a culture of safety and accountability.
