What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Assistant / Technician position at Boston Eye Physicians and Surgeons?
Boston / Brookline ophthalmology practice is seeking a full time or part time ophthalmic assistant / technician.
Daily Duties:
Patient history taking including current, past, family ocular and general medical history, chief vision complaint and medication documentation in EHR, vision, eye pressure check, pupil dilation. Perform Cataract preop tests, glaucoma tests and basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests. Electronic medication refills, communication with patients/pharmacies/referring providers via phone calls, portals and emails. Basic patient education on test and procedure explanations. Medical equipment maintenance and basic trouble shooting.
Skills Needed
- High school diploma must. Some college preferred.
- 3 years of experience as an ophthalmic assistant and/or JCAHPO certified strongly preferred.
- Clear, concise verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills.
- Empathetic and patient personality with good connection with elderly patients.
- Detail oriented and a team player.
- Ability to perform refractometry.
- Good typing skills with exposure to electronic medical record usage.
- Desire to learn new skills to work under cataract, retina, corneal and cosmetic surgeons.
