Program Administrator, McNair Scholars



The Pine Manor Institute for Student Success at Boston College was created out of the integration between Boston College and Pine Manor College in May of 2020. The Pine Manor Institute for Student Success at Boston College is a year-round, free post-secondary readiness program designed to serve underrepresented and underserved first-generation students through a rich and diverse pre-college and college curriculum with the vision of fostering and inspiring academic growth, social development and personal enrichment. The Pine Manor Institute (PMI) has four pillars one of which is Mentoring and Tutoring:

The Academy – Designed for students in grades 8-12.
Mentoring and Tutoring/Academic Support – A resource designed for Boston College and Messina College students.
Messina College – A two-year college division of Boston College offering an associate’s degree program.
Alumni Outreach – Designed for PMI graduates who have graduated from their chosen post-secondary institution.

Structured under the Mentoring and Tutoring pillar, the Program Administrator, McNair Scholars, assists the Associate Director in the day-to-day tasks of program management of the McNair Scholars Program. The primary functions include, but are not limited to: coordination and implementation of the summer research program, including room reservations, arranging educational and recreational outings; database management and file maintenance; bi-weekly meetings with advisees; and coordination of campus recruitment and interviews of potential participants.


This position serves the needs of ~200-250 low-income, first-generation, and/or underrepresented students. This position supports students seeking counseling for personal, academic, and financial aid. Although the program is small, it is highly specialized in its focus to ensure students in our program pursue graduate degrees beyond the Bachelor's. This position must become familiar with all support programs within the university to advise students and make the appropriate referrals.  More importantly, this position should know much about graduate programs throughout the U.S. to refer students to particular graduate programs.  In addition, this position manages a database consisting of weekly updates, including information about student progress and uses of services.


In addition, assist with coordinating, planning, and executing of the Options Through Education Program. Working with the Assistant Director TRIO & OTE Programs and the Director of Mentoring & Academic Achievement, help administer the year-round OTE Program, including the 6-week summer in residence program and academic year advising and support. 




Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $48,900 to $61,150; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Qualifications


BA required; MA in Higher Education or related field/experience preferred.


A minimum of 2 years of experience working with low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students in program administration/development and academic advising/graduate school advising.

This position will require evening and/or weekend work, especially when accompanying students on conferences which usually take place on the weekends; in addition, this position must live on campus with students during the 8-week summer research program.


All staff members are expected to contribute to the greater goals of the division and the university. These contributions (outside of the primary work area) may include supporting division and university-wide initiatives, staffing events, and serving on committees as needed. Some of this work may take place on weekends and outside of normal business hours.
