Position Context

The Director role addresses the operational gap created by the departure of the Director of Undergraduate Interior Architecture in May 2025. The School of Interior Architecture & Design oversees CIDA-accredited BIA, MIA, OMIA, and Continuing Education programs, serving approximately 100 students with one full-time faculty Dean and a team of adjuncts.

Position Summary

The Director provides operational leadership and administrative support for the School’s CIDA-accredited programs and teaches two courses per semester. The role serves as the Dean’s primary operational partner, coordinating programs, accreditation documentation, faculty support, and student communication, and advising student chapters of ASID and IIDA. The Director also supervises Federal Work Study student assistants.

Working Environment & Schedule

  • Must reside within commuting distance of Boston, MA.
  • Hybrid schedule: typically 2–3 days on campus and 2–3 days remote during the academic year.
  • On-campus responsibilities include teaching, meetings, reviews, and events.
  • Summer work (June–August) may be fully remote due to online course delivery.
  • Regular commuting and ability to lift up to 25 lbs required.
  • BAC provides laptop, software, and system access; reliable home internet is required.

Essential Responsibilities

CIDA Accreditation & Documentation

  • Maintain organized digital and physical archives of student work aligned with CIDA standards.
  • Collect student work each semester and track learning outcome achievement.
  • Maintain faculty qualification files and assist with CIDA reports and the Program Analysis Report (PAR).
  • Update curriculum maps to demonstrate alignment with CIDA standards.

Teaching & Academic Engagement

  • Teach two courses per semester (studio, lecture, seminar, or capstone), aligned with program needs and expertise.
  • Prepare syllabi, assignments, and assessments; provide timely grading and feedback and hold office hours.
  • Coordinate with the Dean and faculty to support curriculum cohesion and CIDA-related learning outcomes.

Program Operations & Faculty Support

  • Coordinate day-to-day operations for undergraduate, graduate, and Continuing Education programs.
  • Serve as a point of contact for adjunct faculty.

Student Communication & Engagement

  • Coordinate School-wide communications to BIA, MIA, OMIA, and CE students.
  • Advise and support student chapters of ASID and IIDA and related events.
  • Support student events.

Assessment, Data, & Administrative Support

  • Compile and report assessment data related to student learning outcomes and program goals.
  • Support the Dean with program planning, reporting, and accreditation-related documentation.
  • Manage logistics for School meetings, reviews, and events.
  • Supervise Federal Work Study student assistants and perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $70,000-$74,000

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or closely related field.
  • NCIDQ certification required.
  • Minimum 3 years professional interior design practice or 2 years design education administration.
  • Knowledge of interior design education, professional pathways, and CIDA accreditation.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency with LMS platforms (Moodle preferred), Zoom or Teams, and Google Workspace/Microsoft 365.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active membership in ASID, IIDA, or IDEC.
  • Direct experience with CIDA accreditation processes.
  • College-level teaching experience in interior design.
  • Experience with online/hybrid program administration and assessment.
  • Prior connection to BAC and/or familiarity with practice-based models and working adult learners.
  • Established network in the Boston design community.

Salary : $70,000 - $74,000
