Job Description ABOUT BOSE You know the moment. It’s the first notes of that song you love, the intro to your favorite movie, or simply the sound of someone you love saying “hello.” It’s in these moments that sound matters most. At Bose, we believe sound is the most powerful force on earth. And we’ve dedicated ourselves to improving it for nearly 60 years. Ever since our founder, Dr. Amar Bose, bought a stereo system and thought, “I can make this better,” we’ve been relentlessly pushing forward to the next best thing. Innovation is more than what we do. It’s who we are — constantly learning and constantly curious. We never stop imagining what better sound sounds like. We’re music fanatics and audio engineers. We’re explorers and inventors and dreamers. And we’re passionate down to our bones about making whatever you’re listening to a little more magical. THE PROGRAM We're looking for students to join our Co-Op Program who are obsessively curious about 'what's next'. Timeframe - January-June 2024 THE ROLE Bose's mission is to empower people to focus more, feel more and achieve more by innovating the most magical audio technologies –– technologies that elegantly blend cutting-edge research in acoustics, digital signal processing, machine learning, software, and hardware. Through our ecosystem of earbuds, headphones, and speakers in-the-home, on-the-go, and in-the-car, we are creating the most immersive audio technology to let people enjoy sound in a depth and quality they have never experienced before. By crafting more adaptive and personalized algorithms, we continue to uplift noise cancellation, creating a clean & noise-free canvas for artists to deliver astonishing sound with the fullest range and the finest texture. Through our innovation in self-fitting hearing aids, we are bringing superpower to people, allowing people to focus on sound they care about while blocking out undesired noises. Our global research teams are constantly iterating, solving problems, and innovating to make these technologies better. Together, we can help empower people to focus more, feel more, and to achieve their fullest potential. We are looking for an ambitious ML Engineer Co-Op to join Bose Research this spring! At Bose, we use machine learning across a diverse set of problems ranging from speech enhancement (e.g., Bose PinPoint) to audio perception. In this role you will help deploy deep learning models on cutting-edge hardware designed for headphones and earbuds. Such hardware platforms contain neural network accelerators and various other components to enable efficient processing of neural networks on the edge. You will also help us research various model compression techniques –– such as quantization, pruning, clustering, hardware-model co-design, and compiler/mapper optimization –– to minimize the size of our models, accelerate inference, reduce energy consumption, and potentially enable magical experiences never seen before on headphones and earbuds. The duration of this position is 6 months starting January 2024 (full-time 40 hours/week). Responsibilities Prune and compress deep learning models for deployment on edge devices. Research, implement and evaluate a variety of published approaches and come up with new approaches to optimize deep learning models for specific audio problems on specific hardware platforms with neural network accelerators. Suggest, collect, and synthesize requirements to inform our roadmap of hardware platforms to better support machine learning based experiences. Minimum Qualification Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a M.S. or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or related field. Strong programming background with 3 years of experience in Python and C/C . Strong experience in implementing deep neural networks with Tensorflow, Keras, PyTorch, etc. Familiar with latest research in deep learning on the edge (e.g., pruning, quantization, neural architecture search) Experience with cross-group and cross-culture collaboration. High levels of creativity and quick problem-solving capabilities Preferred Qualification Proven software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions. Strong publication record in relevant venues (e.g., ICLR, ISCA, ICASSP) demonstrating innovative research Solid understanding and experience working with audio and digital signal processing Bose is an equal opportunity employer that is committed to inclusion and diversity.
