Monday to Friday from 6:00am to 2:30pm, with overtime
Position Summary
The Assembly Technician – Lasers is responsible for configuring, calibrating, assembling, and testing laser systems and precision electro-mechanical equipment. This role supports the production of custom and semi-custom industrial equipment by performing hands-on assembly, wiring, troubleshooting, and testing while ensuring quality and efficiency standards are met.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Configure, calibrate, evaluate, and test laser systems.
- Assemble focusing heads and verify proper working distances.
- Build a variety of precision electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Build, wire, and test semi-automated, single-operator material processing workstations.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Perform professional soldering, wiring, and wire harness assembly.
- Troubleshoot PC hardware and software related to equipment functionality.
- Conduct light machining tasks, such as drilling holes in sheet metal for component installation.
- Train and mentor new employees as needed.
- Provide training and technical support to customers and service engineers.
- Collaborate with engineering teams by providing feedback on current and future product designs.
- Recommend and specify electronic control components including switches, indicators, terminal blocks, connectors, and related industrial hardware.
- Implement minor design or wiring modifications as needed to support efficient production and testing.
- Maintain responsibility for meeting assigned time and cost objectives.
- Support company goals and participate fully in carrying out the organization’s mission and philosophy.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Strong soldering, wiring, and electro-mechanical assembly skills.
- Experience designing and building wire harnesses.
- Knowledge of industrial electronic hardware including:
- Terminal blocks
- Connectors
- Switches
- Controls
- Indicators
- Panel meters
- Familiarity with stepper motors, servo systems, and related controls/components.
- Basic machining and fabrication skills.
- PC software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative in completing tasks.
Education & Experience
- Associate degree in Electronics Technology, technical certification, or equivalent trade school training and experience required.
- 2–5 years of experience building and testing custom or semi-custom equipment.
- Experience working with one-of-a-kind electro-mechanical systems preferred.
- Experience sourcing or specifying electrical/electronic components from industrial suppliers such as Grainger, McMaster-Carr, Newark, or similar vendors preferred.
