Position Description
Under the supervision of the Zoning and Codes Officer, the Parking Enforcement Officer patrols the Borough enforcing the Borough’s parking ordinances. This position works directly with the public, spending his/her shift hours patrolling the Borough in a variety of weather conditions. The Parking Enforcement Officer must be professional, courteous, and tactful with the public, and enforce requirements in a way that is kind and consistent. The daily work functions are primarily performed independently in accordance with established procedures and laws. This is a part-time, hourly position.
Principal Duties Include:
· Enforce various parking and other traffic related Borough ordinances and related state statutes within a defined area of the Borough;
· Issue tickets for violations of regulations;
· Promote positive community relations by routinely communicating with Borough merchants, residents and visitors.
· Provide education and information about parking regulations to the public, including assisting with on-the-ground parking questions;
· Evaluate and report issues related parking spaces, meters, and pay station kiosks;
· Represent the Borough at hearings and court proceedings related to parking enforcement cases, as required;
· Assist in traffic control and parking related matters as needed;
· Relay any necessary factual information to emergency response officials and Borough staff regarding emergencies, urgent life safety concerns, automobile accidents, etc.; and
· Perform other administrative parking-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
Applicants should have a high school diploma or its equivalent and a valid driver’s license in good standing. The ideal candidate will be community-minded, projecting and maintaining a positive and professional image on behalf of the Borough. This position requires the ability to exercise good judgment, decision-making, and conflict resolution strategies using patience, tact, diplomacy, and courtesy in communicating with the public. The person in this position must also exhibit a keen attention to detail, have an ability to maintain thorough records and documentation, and be comfortable appearing in court before a district judge on behalf of the Borough. Candidates must be able to work primarily on their own and be comfortable outdoors in various weather conditions.
This is an hourly position. Starting hourly wage starting at $17.00. The person in this position will work 15 to 30 hours per week, Monday through Saturday, between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm. The schedule is flexible but candidate must be able to work four evening shifts per week. Hiring is contingent on successful completion of a background check and verification.
