Springfield, MO Full Time

About Borne Accredited Claims

Borne Accredited Claims takes its name, and its mandate, from Lincoln's promise: to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphan. That's the standard we hold ourselves to. We are a VA-accredited claims firm dedicated to helping veterans navigate the disability compensation process with accuracy and integrity. We work every claim as if it carries the full weight of that promise — because it does.

The Role

This is substantive claims work: reading a C-file, identifying what's missing, meeting directly with veterans to build the record, and knowing exactly how the evidence needs to come together before it ever reaches VA.

What You'll Do

  • Review and analyze claims files, service treatment records, private medical evidence, and prior rating decisions to assess entitlement, effective dates, and evaluation levels
  • Apply 38 CFR Part 3 and Part 4 and M21-1 guidance to identify inferred, secondary, and unclaimed conditions
  • Identify evidentiary gaps and recommend the development needed to close them — DBQs, nexus opinions, lay statements, and records requests
  • Analyze rating decisions and Codesheets for errors in evaluation, effective date, or CUE, and recommend the appropriate lane (Supplemental, HLR, or Board appeal)
  • Prepare clear, well-organized claim summaries and evidence roadmaps for review by the supervising Accredited Claims Agent
  • Serve as a subject-matter resource to the team on rating criteria, VA procedure, and claim strategy
  • Maintain meticulous documentation and protect the confidentiality of all veteran information

What You Need (one of the following)

· At least 1 year of post-production experience as a VA Rating Veterans Service Representative (RVSR) — i.e., one full year working production after completing challenge/certification training; or

· 2 years as a Decision Review Officer (DRO); or

· 5 years as an accredited Veterans Service Officer (VSO) with a state, county, or national service organization; or

· 3 years as a VA Authorizer working in VBMS-A

Also Required

  • Working command of 38 CFR Parts 3 and 4, M21-1, and the AMA appeals framework
  • Hands-on experience with VBMS (R and/or A), CAPRI/VBMS-e, Share, MAP-D, or comparable VA systems
  • Ability to read and synthesize large medical and service records with precision
  • Strong written communication — you can explain a rating rationale in plain English
  • Reliable high-speed internet and a private, secure home workspace
  • Ability to pass a background check

Preferred

  • Experience as a Decision Review Officer, Quality Review Specialist, or Coach
  • Familiarity with TDIU, SMC, and complex secondary/aggravation theories
  • Veteran or military family member

Why Join Borne

  • Fully remote, anywhere in the U.S. — no relocation, no commute
  • Competitive salary and benefits, commensurate with your VA experience
  • Mission that matters — you'll see the outcome of your work in the lives of the veterans you serve
  • Growth path within a fast-growing accredited firm

Important Note

This position is a support-staff role performed under the direction and supervision of a VA Accredited Claims Agent. Employees in this role do not independently represent claimants before VA and do not hold themselves out as accredited representatives.

  • Borne Accredited Claims is an equal opportunity employer. We are proud to be a veteran-friendly workplace and strongly encourage veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses to apply.
