VCT Homeroom Engineer

Job Purpose

The VCT Homeroom Engineer will serve as the technical specialist for Brushless DC (BLDC) motor design and development supporting electric Variable Cam Timing (eVCT) products. The role combines electric motor expertise, mechanical integration capability, system-level thinking, and hands-on automotive product development experience. This engineer will help define motor architecture, support next-generation eVCT actuator development, establish design standards, and provide technical support to global engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the subject matter expert for eVCT electric motors
• Define motor architecture, performance requirements, and technical specifications.
• Support global VCT programs through design reviews, problem solving, root cause analysis, and technical mentoring.
• Design and optimize rotor and stator assemblies, magnet systems, winding configurations, position sensing systems, and motor housing.
• Optimize motor performance for torque, efficiency, response time, durability, NVH, thermal performance, and cost.
• Support eVCT actuator modeling, validation, and correlation of simulation results to test data.
• Define and support DV/PV test plans, prototype builds, production launches, and issue resolution activities.
• Develop engineering standards, design guidelines, best practices, benchmarking reports, and lessons learned.
• Support innovation activities, invention disclosures, and patent development.

What we are looking for

Required Qualifications

• B.S in Electrical Engineering with significant Mechanical Engineering experience. Or B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with significant Electrical Engineering and motor design experience.
• Automotive actuator or eMotor product development experience.
• Experience with electromagnetic design
• Experience with automotive electronics integration including CAN
• Mechanical design (tolerance stacks, vibration analysis)
• Failure analysis/8D/DFMEA
• Simulation and analysis tools
  • Matlab/Simulink
  • Ansys
  • Motorcad
  • 1-D dynamic simulation
• Proven effectiveness working in a global team

Preferred Qualifications

• 5 years of BLDC motor design experience.
• Experience with integrated motor electronics.
• Experience taking products from concept through production launch.
• Experience with eVCT, VFS, oil pumps, turbo actuators, EGR actuators, or similar electromechanical products.
• Patent generation and innovation experience.
• Global technical leadership experience.

Salary Range:
$115,200 - $162,000
