A small, established law firm in Barnstable is seeking a dependable, organized, and personable Legal Administrative Assistant / Office Assistant to assist with the day-to-day administrative needs of the office.
This is a hands-on position with a variety of responsibilities. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a professional, friendly, small-office environment and is comfortable taking initiative and helping wherever needed.
Prior experience working in a law office is preferred, particularly in a trusts and estates, probate, or real estate practice, but we are also willing to consider a strong administrative candidate without prior legal experience.
Responsibilities will include:
- Answering incoming telephone calls and taking and relaying messages
- Greeting clients and visitors
- Scheduling client meetings and maintaining calendars
- Checking, sorting, and distributing incoming mail
- Preparing bank deposits and depositing checks
- Scanning, copying, filing, and organizing documents
- Preparing files and conference rooms for client meetings and estate planning signings
- Serving as a witness for wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other estate planning documents
- Communicating with clients regarding scheduling and routine administrative matters
- Running occasional local errands
- Ordering and maintaining office supplies
- Assisting attorneys and staff with general administrative tasks
- Helping keep the office organized and operating efficiently
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be:
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
- Friendly and comfortable speaking with clients by telephone and in person
- Highly organized with good attention to detail
- Comfortable handling confidential and sensitive information
- Able to work independently and take initiative
- Comfortable using email, computers, scanners, copiers, and standard office software
- Able to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a small-office environment
Prior administrative experience is preferred. Previous experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, receptionist, or administrative assistant in a law firm is strongly preferred.
Compensation & Benefits:
- $26 –$32 per hour, depending on experience
- 3% employer retirement-plan match

- Consistent Monday–Friday daytime schedule
- No nights or weekends
- Overtime at 1.5x hourly rate with prior approval
The position is ideally full-time, Monday through Friday from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., although we are open to discussing a part-time schedule for the right candidate. Health insurance is not currently offered.
