Boone Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Service Specialist (PSS) to join our team at the BMH Family Medical Center. The PSS is an important first point of contact for our patients and helps keep daily clinic operations running smoothly.
We are looking for someone who is friendly, dependable, organized, and comfortable working in a busy healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors in a professional and courteous manner
- Register patients and verify demographic, insurance, and billing information
- Assist patients with required forms and documentation
- Answer incoming phone calls and route calls appropriately
- Schedule patient appointments and assist with coordinating provider schedules
- Collect co-pays and other patient payments
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
- Obtain outside medical records and reports as needed
- Respond to requests for information
- Assist with incoming and outgoing mail
- Help maintain office supplies and report equipment or maintenance needs
- Keep the reception and patient-facing areas neat and organized
- Perform other clerical and administrative duties as assigned
- Maintain patient confidentiality and perform all duties in accordance with HIPAA requirements
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- One year of customer service or patient registration experience in a healthcare setting preferred
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy environment
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar software
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods and work at a computer
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
