POSITION SUMMARY:
Operates Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment to produce quality cross sectional anatomic images of the human body for diagnostic purposes, as directed by the Radiologist. Explain procedure to patient to reduce anxiety and obtain patient cooperation. Perform the described duties in the primary work area and all aspects of the Radiologic Technologist job description. Responsible for verifying patient's compatibility for MRI scans.

- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to assist in providing care appropriate to the age of the patient served (Neonate to Geriatric) within the department.
- Maintain performance in compliance with State and Federal laws, consistent with high standards of business and professional ethics. Understands and abides by the Boone County Hospital Standards of Behavior, confidentiality statement, EMTALA guidelines, general hospital and department policies and procedures.
- Practice good Quality Control. Safely operate MRI equipment.
- Understands the safety requirements involved in the operation of the MRI scanner and can communicate that to the patient in terms they understand.
- Check patient's implanted hardware/devices for compatibility to have MRI scans prior to taking patient into the MRI scan room.
- Operate department and hospital computer systems.
- Communicate in a clear, concise and credible manner. Maintains a high level of professionalism when interacting with staff, peers, clients and administration.

- Able to function without direct supervision.
- Annual mandatory education and training.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Graduate of a two-year program from an AMA approved school of Radiology Technology.
- Valid, current State of Iowa Permit to Practice and American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) certification.
- Completion and maintenance of BCLS certification.
- Dependent Adult Abuse Training. Mandatory reporter training for child abuse.
- Able to resolve practical problems and deal with a variety in situations where only limited standardization exists. Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Typical Working Conditions: Employees are subject to the risks inherent to working in a critical access hospital environment, including exposure to inside environmental conditions, chemicals, infectious and contagious diseases, and exposure to unpleasant elements. Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances such as emergency or crisis situations. Environment may cause high stress levels due to interruptions, high volume, urgency of issues, and interactions with a wide variety of personalities and departments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and the risk of radiation exposure. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, blood and/or bodily fluids, outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Vision must be correctable to view computer screens and read printed information. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
