Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Pre/Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. Duties
- Prepare patients for surgery by conducting comprehensive assessments, reviewing medical histories, and explaining procedures to reduce anxiety.
- Monitor vital signs and assess patient condition continuously during the preoperative and postoperative phases.
- Administer medications including IV infusions, analgesics for acute pain management, and botulinum toxin treatments when indicated.
- Provide advanced airway management, aseptic techniques, suturing, and catheter care to ensure optimal patient safety.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans for patients with complex needs such as infectious disease care, hospice & palliative medicine, or working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Document all patient interactions accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Epic or Cerner while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory specimen collection, phlebotomy, and imaging procedures like CT scans or sonography as needed.
Skills
- Proven experience in acute care settings including hospital medicine, ICU, emergency room, or Level I/II trauma centers.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and medical documentation standards.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks is a plus.
- Skilled in IV insertion, medication administration via injections or infusion pumps, and sterile processing techniques.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics (neonatal ventilator), geriatrics (memory care), behavioral health patients or those requiring long-term care such as assisted living or nursing homes.
- Ability to perform physical examinations, tube feeding management, ventilator support, and trauma-related procedures like spinal taps or gastric lavage.
- Knowledge of infection control protocols and aseptic technique; familiarity with Workers' Compensation law is advantageous for handling occupational health cases.
- Excellent patient assessment skills combined with critical thinking in high-pressure environments such as urgent care or post-operative recovery units.
