SERVICE CREW LEAD - UNDERGROUND UTILITIES

Summary:

The Underground Utilities Service Crew Lead man supports the installation and maintenance of water, sewer, storm drain, reclaimed water, and force main pipelines. This role involves physical labor, equipment operation, and precise technical work at various construction sites, including roads, highways, and commercial/residential developments.

Essential Functions:

Pipe Installation Support

• Direct backhoe and excavator operators for proper trench digging.
• Guide the placement and movement of pipes into trenches. Assist in the safe and correct handling and installation of utility pipes.
• Use demo saws and pipe cutters to prepare materials.
• Perform pressure testing, install small taps, make pipe connections and tie-ins, and complete various punch-out tasks to prepare projects for final turnover.

Equipment Operation

• Operate front-end loaders, mini excavators and compactors efficiently and safely.
• Use sight levels and grade rods to verify pipe elevation.
• Operate laser-leveling equipment to ensure accurate pipe installation.
• Handle specialized equipment like transits, tagging machines, and pipe lasers.

Grade and Measurement Control

• Shoot grades using survey tools to ensure trench and pipe accuracy.
• Perform grade checking based on construction blueprints.
• Level earth to fine-grade specifications before pipe placement.
• Adjust manhole tops to their correct elevations.

Site Preparation and Manual Labor

• Perform manual trench digging and backfilling using shovels.
• Level construction surfaces and remove debris as needed.
• Load and unload materials and tools safely.
• Support in site cleanup and post-installation adjustments.

Safety and Compliance

• Follow company safety procedures and report incidents immediately.
• Use proper PPE and adhere to jobsite safety regulations.
• Maintain awareness of surroundings, especially near heavy machinery.
• Bring unsafe conditions to the attention of the Foreman or Safety Director.

Tool and Equipment Maintenance

• Clean, inspect, and store hand tools and equipment after use.
• Report damaged or malfunctioning tools promptly.
• Assist in routine maintenance checks of jobsite machinery.
• Ensure all tools are used according to safety guidelines.

Jobsite Communication and Professionalism

• Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
• Communicate clearly with equipment operators and crew members.
• Represent the company professionally while on the jobsite.
• Assist with final project punch-out to ensure quality standards are met.

Other Functions

• Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Foreman, Safety Specialist, or Human Resources Manager. 
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor
• Represent Bonness Inc. in a professional manner at all times

Job Requirements:

• Valid driver’s license and a minimum of three years of driving experience with a clean driving history
  
• High School Diploma, GED, Trade School or the equivalent preferred
• Manual dexterity
• Safety minded
• Ability to work under strenuous conditions
• Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
