Role Description
Work with the Underground Utilities Department focusing on Pipes for Water, Sewer, and Drainage. Assist in the installation of water and sewer pipelines. Perform tasks involving strenuous physical labor at roads, highway, residential/commercial, and heavy construction projects.
Essential Functions:
- Direct the backhoe operator to dig trenches for water and sewer pipes. Act as spotter for Excavator Operator
- Direct the moving of pipes into trenches
- Set up and use a sight level and grade rod to shoot grade
- Raise manhole tops to their proper grades in accordance to the blueprints
- Assist in the safe handling and correct installation of all aspects of underground utilities including water pipes, storm drains, reclaimed water, sewer, and force main pipes.
- Level earth to fine grade specifications
- Responsible for all measurements, excavation, cutting, checking grade, and installation of small and large pipe infrastructure
- Operate specialized pieces of equipment such as: transits, pipe lasers, compactors, tagging machine, pipe saws, street saws, core bore machine, and laser levels. Use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Assist in the final punch out work to ensure that the product will pass final inspection
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, Trade School, or the equivalent is preferred
- At least two years' experience in laying water and sewer pipelines
- Valid Driver’s License
- Safety minded
- Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor in adverse field conditions
