This role combines driving duties with direct care responsibilities, ensuring both the safety and well-being of individuals during transport and throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a company vehicle to transport individuals to and from designated locations.
- Assist individuals in entering and exiting the vehicle, including use of wheelchairs or mobility devices when needed.
- Monitor and support individuals during transport, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment.
- Provide direct support to individuals with daily living activities, including meal prep, hygiene, communication, and community engagement.
- Follow individualized care plans and behavior support strategies.
- Maintain accurate transportation logs, incident reports, and other documentation as required.
- Conduct regular vehicle safety checks and report any maintenance issues.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, agency policies, and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold the dignity and rights of individuals served.
- Participate in required trainings and staff meetings.
Requirements
- Current, valid driver's license in the state of New York preferred. Valid licenses from other states will be accepted.
- High school diploma and experience working with individuals with ID/DD
- Must be cleared through OPWDD
