Bonchon means “my hometown” in Korean. We’re a family-owned and operated franchise serving our famous twice-cooked Korean fried chicken and other Asian-inspired dishes in a fast-casual, family-friendly atmosphere. Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable, bilingual (Spanish/English) Shift Leader to manage restaurant operations 5 days per week while the owner’s son handles upper management responsibilities. This is a hands-on leadership position where you’ll run the restaurant independently during your shifts, working closely with our experienced kitchen manager who speaks Spanish. You’ll handle all front-of-house operations, work the cashier station, assist in the kitchen, and ensure smooth daily operations.
This is NOT a traditional management role - you’ll be working alongside the team, doing the same work as other staff while providing leadership and ensuring quality standards are met.
Your Role in Our Team
- You’ll work: 5 days per week (55 hours including overtime)
- You’ll communicate: Between front-of-house, kitchen manager, and ownership
- Kitchen manager: Runs all kitchen operations (Spanish-speaking only)
- Ownership: Works 2 days and takes care of upper management task including but not
limited to handling inventory, ordering, prep planning, and oversight.

Compensation & Tips
Base Pay: $10.00/hour overtime premium ($15.00/hour for hours over 40/week)
Expected Total Compensation: $1,800 - $2,000 biweekly
- Base wages: $1,250 biweekly (80 regular hours 30 overtime hours)
- Tips: $630 - $750 biweekly (based on actual September performance)
- Total: $1,800 - $2,000 biweekly (~$48,000 - $52,000 annually)
Tip Breakdown:
- September average: $5.75/hour in tips ($632.86 biweekly)
- Tips vary by season, day of week, and business volume
- You keep 100% of tips earned during your shifts
Legal Guarantee: If tips fall below $2.74/hour, we will make up the difference to ensure you earn at least Virginia minimum wage ($12.41/hour total compensation). We track all tips and ensure full legal compliance.
Schedule
- 5 days per week (Tuesday-Saturday) Subject to Change
- 55 hours per week (includes overtime pay for hours over 40)
- Must include evenings, weekends, and some holidays
- Ownership works 2 days per week, and can fill in for emergencies
- Consistent schedule week-to-week
Store Hours:
- Sunday - Thursday: 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM
- Friday - Saturday: 11:00 AM - 10:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations Leadership:
- Open and close the restaurant following established checklists and procedures
- Oversee all front-of-house and back-of-house operations during your shifts
- Ensure food quality, cleanliness, and customer service standards are maintained
- Coordinate between front-of-house staff and kitchen manager
- Communicate with kitchen manager in Spanish to ensure smooth operations
- Handle any issues that arise and make decisions to keep operations running smoothly
- Report any problems, inventory needs, or concerns to ownership
- Ensure all employees follow proper procedures and food safety protocols
Customer Service & Cashier:
- Operate POS system (NCR Aloha) and process orders accurately
- Greet customers and provide excellent service
- Handle cash, credit card, and digital payments
- Balance cash drawer and prepare daily deposits
- Take phone orders and manage takeout/delivery orders
- Resolve customer complaints professionally
- Answer menu questions and make recommendations
Kitchen Support:
- Assist with cooking during busy periods or when short-staffed
- Operate fryers, cooked station, and painting station as needed
- Monitor food quality and ensure proper cooking procedures
- Help with food prep when needed (mostly will be done by ownership)
- Ensure kitchen cleanliness and sanitation standards
- Check food temperatures and maintain food safety
Administrative Tasks (Basic):
- Complete daily sales and tip reports
- Track any issues or equipment problems
- Note inventory needs for owner to order
- Follow opening and closing procedures
- Maintain cleanliness and organization standards
Note: Upper management tasks like inventory tracking, prep planning, SKU ordering, and strategic decisions are handled by ownership. Your focus is on excellent daily execution and operations.
Required Qualifications
- MUST be fluent English and proficient in Spanish
- This is critical for communicating with our kitchen manager who runs all kitchen
operations
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Available to work 5 days per week (55 hours) including weekends and evenings
- Previous restaurant or food service experience required (minimum 1 year)
- Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy
- Ability to work independently and make decisions
- Strong work ethic and leadership skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Basic math skills for cash handling
- Comfortable with technology (POS systems, basic computer use)
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years restaurant experience
- Previous shift leader, supervisor, or team lead experience
- Experience with Korean food or Asian cuisine
- Food Handler’s Card or ServSafe Certification (or willing to obtain)
- Experience with POS systems (NCR Aloha a plus)
- Experience working in family-owned restaurants
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for 8 hours per day
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds
- Ability to move quickly and frequently throughout the restaurant
- Comfortable working near fryers and in kitchen heat
- Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks
