What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prep Cook position at Bonafide Bites Catering?
Bonafide Bites Catering
Part-Time Prep Cook
$18.00–$22.00 per hour, depending on experience
Location
Our catering production kitchen is located approximately 10 minutes northwest of Lake Lemon. Candidates must have reliable transportation and be able to consistently report to the kitchen for scheduled shifts.
Schedule and Hours
Most production shifts take place during daytime hours Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays. Saturday availability is required, although you will not work every Saturday. Occasional evening shifts may also be needed.
Scheduling is based on our catering calendar. During our busiest seasons, approximately 15–35 hours per week may be available. During slower periods, substantially fewer hours may be available.
About the Job
This is a production kitchen position, not a restaurant line cook position. We prepare food in batches for catered events rather than cooking tickets during restaurant service.
Bonafide Bites Catering is a growing, chef-owned catering company serving universities, businesses, nonprofit organizations, private clients, and venues throughout Southern Indiana. Our menus and production needs change based on the events we have booked, so no two weeks look exactly the same.
We’re looking for a dependable Prep Cook who can work through a prep list, follow recipes carefully, stay organized, and pitch in wherever needed.
What the Job Looks Like
Depending on the week, you may be:
- Preparing vegetables, completing knife work, and portioning ingredients
- Following recipes for sauces, dressings, marinades, and other menu items
- Weighing, labeling, dating, packaging, and organizing prepared food
- Receiving deliveries and properly putting products away
- Letting the team know when ingredients or supplies are running low
- Helping our chefs prepare food for upcoming events
- Keeping your workstation clean and organized
- Washing dishes, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment
- Sweeping, mopping, taking out trash, and helping close down the kitchen
- Following food safety procedures, including allergy and gluten-free production protocols
Who We’re Looking For
You’ll likely be a good fit if you:
- Show up when scheduled and arrive on time
- Follow recipes and written instructions without cutting corners
- Stay organized while working through multiple tasks
- Can work independently once trained
- Notice what needs to be done and pitch in
- Take food safety, allergies, and sanitation seriously
- Can spend most of the shift on your feet and safely lift up to 50 pounds
- Take pride in doing things correctly, even when no one is watching
Previous restaurant, catering, bakery, commissary, or commercial kitchen experience is preferred. Basic knife skills and food preparation experience are helpful. ServSafe certification is also helpful, or you must be willing to obtain it.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check
- Authorization to work in the United States
