Registered Clinical Dietician
Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
Performs as a member of the interdisciplinary team responsible for the design, coordination and implementation of medical nutritional therapy and education of patients/clients in accordance with established standards of care.
Essential Job Functions
Utilizes Nutrition Care Process as recommended by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and in accordance with organizational Standards of Care guidelines for Screening and Assessment.
Adheres to practice standards established by local, state, and national agencies.
Serves as a liaison between providers and ancillary support services.
May develop curriculum for nutrition classes and teach group classes as required by the clinical area of care.
Provides nutrition counseling and/or education to patients and/or caregivers based on assessment of individual learning needs.
Provides nutrition expertise to healthcare professionals in establishing standards of patient care
Participate in clinical and interdisciplinary communication, meetings, task forces, and projects.
May provide supervised learning experiences for dietetic interns when appropriate.
In an outpatient setting, provides disease specific, nutrition education and counseling, including Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) services.
Participates in performance improvement programs related to patient care and service; may participate in research protocols and development of clinical pathways in assigned area(s) of responsibility, and committees as assigned.
Maintains a high level of competency and professional development related to nutrition trends, research, policy, certifications, and Standards of Practice.
Participates in the development of performance objectives with emphasis on an area of specialization as appropriate.
May participate in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities and participants’ needs. Demonstrates effective classroom and 1:1 clinical teaching skills.

Licensing/Certification
State specific requirements for Certified Registered Dietician (CDR) and Licensure • VA - Certified Registered Dietician (CDR) (required), no licensure required Certification in Renal Nutrition, Oncology Nutrition, Geriatric Nutrition, Certified Specialist of Obesity & Weight Management (CSOWM), or is a Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist (CDCES) or Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) (preferred)
Work Experience
Prior dietitian experience (preferred)
