Primary Function/General Purpose Of Position
The Neurodiagnostic Technician is responsible for conducting patient testing including, but not limited to, EEGs and EMGs. Responsibilities include maintaining timely completion of daily patient testing, accurate documentation of patient testing, and physical maintenance of clinical testing equipment. The incumbent performs all assigned duties in strict compliance with established policies, procedures, and protocols, and always works to ensure patient safety, comfort, and privacy.
Essential Job Functions
Obtain appropriate supplies prior to test. Review and analyze patient’s medical history to determine appropriate neurodiagnostic procedures. Interview patients and/or family members to obtain additional information.
Explains procedures to patient; prepare and position patients for testing to include measuring and marking cranial area and fastening electrodes to specified position on scalp and body. Instruct patients in relaxation techniques and elicit cooperation. Demonstrate sensitivity to patient’s needs; treat patients with skill, dignity, tact, and patience at all times. Select appropriate testing procedures or montage according to patient diagnosis or physician preference.
Independently perform all neurodiagnostic procedures such as routine and complex Electroencephalograph (EEG). Sets up and operates electromyographic equipment to assist Neurologist in testing electrical activity of muscles (EMG) and measuring the conducting function of nerves (NCS), and measure brainwave characteristics. Adjust, monitor, record frequencies and flows and record filters and sensitivity levels to optimize test results.
Responsible for the final disposition of interpreted test results. Utilize the department database to effectively process testing data to report form and store digital data. Enter appropriate charges in HIS and keep records of all units of service for statistical reporting.
Prepare test results for interpretation by physician, recording necessary information such as voltages, latencies, frequencies, and conduction times on graphs, identifying tests performed and unusual occurrences. Eliminate all artifacts for consideration caused by equipment. Clean, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain diagnostic equipment. Refer difficult and non-routine equipment problems to Clinical Biomedical services. Recognize unsafe conditions that may jeopardize patient safety. Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Assure proper handling of all written correspondence, physician orders, and/or electronic mail. Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to the patient or organization. Ensure management is advised of all unusual, significant encounters.
Must maintain continuing education requirements of ABRET for REEGT credentials. Be active in the pursuit of professional growth and development via educational opportunities to keep up with latest accepted practices. Develop and review operational policies and procedures according to established standards of practice

High School Diploma
2 year/Associates Degree - preferred
American Heart Associate BLS
Licensure/Certification Preferred:
