Elementary Special Education Teacher
Bon Air Elementary School
Job Summary: Serve as Teacher of Record; prepare students for changing world in which they live; provide diverse learning opportunities using real-world projects and experiences; receive ongoing training; participate in district and building level professional development; collaborate with other teachers.
Certification and Qualifications: Valid Indiana Mild Interventions teaching certification (Grades PK-5) required; demonstration of leadership; strong skills in interpersonal communication and collaboration; history of using differentiated strategies in instruction; demonstrated ability to integrate technology in instruction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver small-group and one-on-one instruction in reading and math aligned with Title I program guidelines
- Assess student needs using diagnostic and progress-monitoring tools
- Develop and implement individualized intervention plans
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and intervention effectiveness
- Communicate regularly with teachers, administrators, and families regarding student growth
- Participate in professional development and data team meetings
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during classroom instruction and supervision.
- Manual dexterity to operate classroom technology and equipment.
- Visual and auditory ability to monitor student behavior and respond to classroom situations.
- Ability to move quickly in response to student safety needs.
- Ability to perform light physical activities—such as bending, kneeling, and reaching—as required in a classroom setting, as well as lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
