Job Overview: The Shipfitter (3rd Class) is responsible for laying out and fabricating metal structural parts and braces them in position within the hull of the vessel for welding.

Job Overview: The Shipfitter (3rd Class) is responsible for laying out and fabricating metal structural parts and braces them in position within the hull of the vessel for welding.
Key Responsibilities
- Determines the position of structural components working from blueprints or templates.
- Positions parts in hull of vessel and aligns parts in relation to each other.
- Marks location of holes to be drilled and installs temporary fasteners to hold parts in place for welding or riveting.
- Installs packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories and members.
- Tack welds clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding.
- Bends, flanges, cuts, and shapes plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts.
- One (1) year of marine or six (6) months of continuous Company experience.
- Must be able to demonstrate Structural fitting skills by passing a hands-on craft test.
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to accurately perform layout, cutting with a torch, metric measuring (i.e. cm, mm, etc.).
- Comprehends basic knowledge of blueprints, sketches, and templates.
- Accurate in performing the following processes layout, cutting, measuring, and fitting.
