Key Responsibilities
- Ability to learn and use software, databases, internet applications, and available resources for efficient sourcing and pricing of marine spares and outfit materials.
- Identifies potential suppliers offering quality products with timely deliveries at competitive prices.
- Prepares and sends bid requests to potential suppliers.
- Reviews and ensures the completeness of all supplier bid proposals.
- Negotiates pricing within budgetary constraints and scope of authority.
- Negotiates the best possible payment terms with suppliers.
- Maintains professional communication with co-workers, management, customers, and vendors.
- Conducts bid quotations through electronic or web-based interfaces.
- Ensure all contract deadlines are met.
- Requests and reports price justifications as needed.
- Maintains and updates electronic files for all contracts and requests.
- Assists in expediting material deliveries as required.
- Resolves supply support discrepancies with accounting, material control, warehouse personnel, and vendors.
- Attends off-site events for training or contractual meetings as necessary.
- Assists the pricing supervisor in training pricing coworkers.
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures, including those related to employee safety, environmental policy, and quality system principles.
- 6 to 12 months of shipbuilding experience, with recent focus on purchasing, sales, or a related field.
- Familiarity with materials used in the construction, repair, and sustainability of marine vessels.
- Basic knowledge of software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
- Understanding of electronic or web-based interfaces.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Effective negotiation skills.
- Strong organization and time-management abilities.
- Proficient in both written and oral communication.
