Position Overview: An Estimator III analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare material and labor estimates for products, projects or services.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviews data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.
- Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes, such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, scheduling vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost effectiveness.
- Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions.
- Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Prepares accurate estimates and reports and maintains a source of data file.
- Gathers cost and technical quotations from vendors, suppliers and manufacturers.
- Ensures supplier’s scope of supply coincides with contract or project requirements.
- Maintains job estimate history files.
- Updates history files as required for use in preparing future project estimates.
- Prepares letters, memos, faxes and/or e-mails to suppliers to seek requests for information.
- Works overtime as required to complete estimates in a timely fashion.
- Prepares material and labor cost estimates from information provided or historical experience.
- Contacts and gathers technical and cost information from vendors, suppliers, manufacturers and other sources.
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of directly applicable estimating experience in a marine or offshore environment.
- Bachelor of Science Degree preferred.
- Accurately able to read and interpret provided drawings, specifications or other proposal or technical documents.
- Contacts and gathers technical and cost information from vendors, suppliers, manufacturers and other sources.
- Computer literate, with good spreadsheet and word processing skills.
- Can work under schedule pressure and meet deadlines.
