What are the responsibilities and job description for the ELECTRICAL PRODUCTION DESIGN TECHNICAL CHECKER position at BOLLINGER MISSISSIPPI SHIPBUILDING LLC?
PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to provide experienced technical checking support for electrical production design activities associated with ship construction.
The Technical Checker will be responsible for independently reviewing electrical production-design deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, constructability, coordination, and compliance with applicable engineering and production requirements prior to release.
This position requires an experienced marine electrical design professional capable of contributing immediately with minimal training or supervision. The position is not intended to be an entry-level, developmental, or general electrical drafting position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 8 years of professional electrical design or engineering experience.
Minimum 5 years of direct shipyard, marine, naval, or shipboard electrical design experience.
Demonstrated experience supporting ship production or new-construction vessel programs.
Demonstrated experience performing technical checking, peer review, quality assurance, or equivalent design verification activities.
Experience working within a structured engineering and production-design environment.
Electrical Design Experience
Candidate shall demonstrate substantial experience with:
Shipboard electrical arrangements.
Electrical equipment arrangements and locations.
Cable routing and cableway/wireway design.
Electrical penetrations and associated details.
Electrical supports and installation details.
Electrical equipment and component placement.
Electrical production drawings.
Electrical schematics and wiring information.
Design changes and revisions.
Drawing references and interface coordination.
Engineering-to-production design development.
Identification and resolution of design discrepancies.
Constructability reviews.
Production-impact reviews.
The candidate shall be capable of understanding the relationship between engineering requirements and the final production design and shall be able to identify issues that may not be apparent from a simple drawing or drafting review.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
10 years of electrical design/engineering experience.
7 years of direct marine or shipyard electrical production-design experience.
Previous experience as a Senior Designer, Technical Checker, Lead Designer, Design Lead, or equivalent.
Experience supporting U.S. military or government vessel programs.
Experience with NAVSEA, USCG, ABS, or other applicable marine requirements.
Extensive experience with electrical arrangement modeling.
Extensive wireway/cableway design experience.
Experience with shipboard electrical equipment arrangements.
Experience with electrical penetrations and supports.
Experience reviewing designs for production and constructability.
Experience mentoring or technically directing designers.
Experience working in a high-volume production-design environment.
Experience supporting multiple vessels or units concurrently.
TECHNICAL CHECKING RESPONSIBILITIES
The Technical Checker shall independently review assigned deliverables and verify that they are suitable for production release.
Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:
Drawing and Design Review
Verify technical accuracy and completeness of electrical production drawings.
Verify dimensions, locations, tags, references, notes, symbols, and applicable design information.
Verify consistency between drawings, models, engineering information, and associated documentation.
Identify missing, conflicting, or incomplete design information.
Verify that design changes have been properly incorporated.
Review revisions for accuracy and completeness.
Production and Constructability Review
Evaluate whether designs can reasonably be constructed and installed aboard the vessel.
Identify potential installation conflicts before the design reaches production.
Identify access, routing, clearance, support, penetration, and equipment-location concerns.
Evaluate interfaces between electrical systems and other ship disciplines.
Identify conditions that could result in production rework, delays, or field changes.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: Minimum of ten years’ experience in technical field. Minimum of three years’ experience in new ship design. Associates degree in technical field or equivalent experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which results in the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Auto Cad Experience, Microsoft Excel, Work and Power Point Proficient.
