Position Scope
The Upper School English Teacher fosters a challenging and engaging learning environment that develops students' skills in reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking. This position teaches Upper School English courses as assigned, supports curriculum development, assesses student learning, and contributes to the academic and co-curricular life of the Upper School.
This position is for the 2026–27 academic year and begins on August 3, 2026.
Essential Responsibilities
- Teach Upper School English courses as assigned.
- Design and deliver engaging, rigorous instruction aligned with departmental curriculum and learning objectives.
- Foster analytical and creative thinking through the study of literature, composition, language, and research.
- Develop meaningful assessments to evaluate student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Communicate course expectations, assignments, and grading policies clearly and consistently.
- Differentiate instruction to support the diverse learning needs of students.
- Establish a positive, inclusive, and intellectually engaging classroom environment.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grade records, and other required documentation.
- Communicate regularly with students and families regarding academic progress and student success.
- Participate in parent conferences and other school meetings as needed.
- Collaborate with colleagues within the English Department and the Upper School to support student learning and departmental initiatives.
- Participate fully in the life of the school through student advising and service to the school community. Faculty members are encouraged to support extracurricular programs such as clubs, publications, athletics, or other student activities.
- Assist with field trips, literary events, experiential learning opportunities, and other school-sponsored activities as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, English Education, Literature, or a related field required - advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years of high school English teaching experience.
- Experience teaching Honors and/or Advanced Placement English courses preferred.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain seated for extended periods while working at a computer.

- Visual and auditory ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues in both in-person and virtual settings.
