Position Summary
Founded in 1881, Oakville Grocery is the oldest continually operating grocery store in California. A beloved destination for both locals and visitors, we offer a curated selection of exceptional products from farmers, artisans, and purveyors across Napa Wine Country.
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Cheese Monger to support our Cheese & Charcuterie program. This role partners closely with store leadership to execute all aspects of cheese operations—from sourcing and merchandising to education and customer experience.
The ideal candidate has a deep enthusiasm for cheese, strong organizational skills, and a creative culinary perspective. This role primarily supports our flagship Oakville location (90%) with occasional support in Healdsburg (10%).
Key Responsibilities
- Source, order, and manage inventory for cheese and charcuterie products
- Receive and maintain product quality standards
- Merchandise displays, including wrapping, presentation, and cross-merchandising
- Prepare cheese and charcuterie boards
- Manage margins and minimize waste
- Educate team members and customers on products
- Support catering production and ensure timely, high-quality order fulfillment
- Maintain efficient systems and processes (opening, closing, mid-shift, cleanliness)
- Collaborate with store leadership on new products, menu items, and improvements

Qualifications

- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift
- Lift and carry up to 40 lbs
- Manual dexterity for food preparation and handling
Work Environment & Schedule
- Retail environment with moderate noise levels
- Indoor setting with occasional outdoor movement between buildings
