Job Summary/Basic Function
The purpose of this position is to assist in fiscal leadership with Foundation budget development and management, operational coordination, and decision making related to budgetary and financial services. This role supervises accounting and related financial services, including financial report generation and analysis, and manages key relationships while coordinating financial and operational activities between the University and the Foundation.

A nonprofit Idaho organization, the Boise State University Foundation was established in 1964 for the benefit of Boise State University. We work to build relationships and support for the university by developing and nurturing donor-centered relationships and stewarding gifts made in support of Boise State. The Foundation works closely with university leadership, the Boise State University Alumni Association, and the Bronco Athletic Association.
Level Scope
Manages a large team typically consisting of both experienced professionals and subordinate Managers. Focuses on tactical and operational plans with short to mid-term focus; significant responsibility to achieve broadly stated goals through subordinate Managers. Determines objectives, directs programs, develops strategies and policies, manages human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a high degree of autonomy. Requires broad management and leadership knowledge to lead project or program teams in one department/job family. Proactively assesses risk to establish systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Determines campus strategies for a program with campus wide impact. May report to an Associate/Assistant Vice President or Dean.

Essential Functions
60% of the time the Deputy Controller must:
- Provides a leadership role in the development of annual budgets. Coordinates use of spreadsheet support for budget monitoring by other senior management staff. Conducts internal audits for the purpose of ensuring program operations are within budget and in accordance with fiscal practices.
- Develop, analyze and interpret key performance metrics and statistical financial and accounting information in order to evaluate operating results in terms of efficiency and performance. Develops financial procedures and controls.
- Facilitates meetings and workshops to meet Foundation, University, or external stakeholder needs for the purpose of identifying issues and developing recommendations. Serve as a Foundation representative.
- Designs and develops financial report formats which provide critical financial information not available with standard Foundation reports. Provide fiscal year cash flow projections, produce and review monthly Foundation unit summary reports.
- Review results of operations to identify trends and correct problems. Develop and maintain long-term financial and planning model for Foundation units.
- Collaborates with University finance and administration offices to align financial processes, reporting requirements, and operational activities between the University and the Foundation.
- Provides financial guidance and technical assistance to Foundation staff regarding budgeting, financial procedures, reporting requirements, and policy compliance.
- Ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards, Foundation policies, University requirements, and regulatory guidelines; recommends updates to policies and procedures as needed.
- Oversees scholarship and endowment spending projections, verifying that calculation methodologies are accurate, appropriately automated, and consistent with donor restrictions, Foundation policies, and long-term fund sustainability.
- Prepares, reviews, and validates management-level financial reports to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and relevance for Foundation leadership and decision-making.
- Supports the evaluation and improvement of financial processes, reporting tools, and internal controls to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making capabilities. Identifies opportunities to enhance reporting automation and data accuracy.
- Collaborates with the Foundation Assistant Financial Controller and other Foundation finance and accounting staff to ensure alignment of financial reporting, analysis, and operational practices across functions.
- Actively contributes to the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures to ensure consistency across Foundation operations and alignment with University standards.
- Provides input on long-term financial planning, including endowment and restricted fund sustainability, in collaboration with the Stewardship and Compliance team to support strategic initiatives and donor stewardship.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of budget development, forecasting, and monitoring.
- Working knowledge and experience with financial reporting and auditing practices.
- Knowledge of financial compliance requirements, internal controls, and applicable regulations.
- Ability to lead change and implement improvements to financial policies, procedures, and processes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to support strategic planning through financial forecasting and analysis.
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with University leadership, Foundation staff, and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with financial management systems and advanced spreadsheet and data analysis tools.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 7 years’ experience including 3 years managerial experience.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or other relevant financial management certification preferred.
Salary range is $97,884.80 to $122,366.40 annually and is commensurate with experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):
