What are the responsibilities and job description for the Painting Lead/Journeyman position at Boise Paint Company?
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Journeyman Painter to join our team in Boise. The ideal candidate has strong experience with residential and/or commercial painting and is highly proficient in using airless paint sprayers. This role requires attention to detail, efficiency, and a commitment to delivering high-quality finishes. You will also take on a leadership role, overseeing small crews on most jobs.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare surfaces for painting (sanding, patching, masking, priming)
- Operate and maintain airless paint sprayers safely and effectively
- Apply paints, stains, and coatings to various surfaces
- Ensure clean, precise lines and professional-quality finishes
- Lead and manage a small crew of 1–2 lower-level painters depending on job size
- Delegate tasks and ensure work is completed efficiently and to company standards
- Train and support less experienced painters as needed
- Protect surrounding areas and maintain a clean work environment
- Collaborate with team members to complete projects on schedule
- Follow all safety procedures and company standards
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a journeyman painter
- Strong proficiency with airless paint sprayers (required)
- Prior experience leading or supervising a small crew preferred
- Knowledge of painting techniques, materials, and tools
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and work on ladders or scaffolding
- Strong work ethic, leadership skills, and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with both residential and commercial projects
- Familiarity with different coatings (lacquers, epoxies, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of drywall repair and finishing
