As the Deli Department Manager at the Co-op, you’ll oversee all front and back-of-house deli operations—keeping things running smoothly while inspiring your team to deliver top-quality food and friendly service every day. This position supports both our Boise and Meridian stores. Candidates must be willing and able to work at either location based on business and department needs. While you will not be expected to work at both stores at the same time, flexibility to work from either location is an important part of this role.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and manage all aspects of daily deli operations, ensuring food safety, quality, and excellent customer service.
- Hire, train, coach, and develop team members while fostering a culture of accountability, respect, and growth.
- Plan schedules and manage labor to meet department needs and financial goals.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health standards.
- Oversee ordering, inventory, and product rotation to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
- Track department performance, meeting or exceeding sales, labor, and margin goals.
- Collaborate with Category Management and Marketing teams to execute promotions and maintain recipe and product accuracy.
- Ensure smooth coordination between the kitchen, front of house, and other departments.
- Review and improve workflows to increase efficiency and team productivity.
- Provide leadership and operational support at both Boise Co-op locations as needed.

Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a department manager in retail or food service
- Extensive knowledge of deli operations and food handling practices
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check
Physical Demands & Working Environment
This role keeps you active and engaged! You’ll be on your feet, lifting up to 50 lbs., reaching, bending, and using step stools or ladders as needed. Expect a lively grocery environment with frequent interaction with staff, customers, and vendors. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and used when working with equipment.
This position may work from either our Boise or Meridian store depending on department and business needs. It’s a fast-paced, collaborative environment where strong leadership, flexibility, and teamwork are essential.
