What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Network Engineer position at Bohemia Interactive Simulations?
About the role:
BISim have offices in Prague, London, Orlando, Pittsburgh, Sydney, and Slovakia. Our network handles large volumes of data, distributing software builds around the globe, large geospatial datasets, image files built by our content team, and more to our development teams all over the world.
As Lead Network Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in managing and enhancing BISim’s global network infrastructure. You will be responsible for design, configuration, maintenance, and robust security measures to safeguard our network. Your efforts will directly impact our users, empowering them to execute their daily tasks while continually improving our network's performance for a great user experience.
In this role, you will take ownership of the network team's strategic roadmap, enabling you to be a catalyst for change. You will use your knowledge to drive innovation and enable you and your team to deliver an excellent quality of service. Working closely with our Development and Platform teams, you will act as a subject matter expert to ensure projects and products are delivered to a high standard.
You will also apply your leadership skills as a mentor and a coach, guiding other network engineers, helping them learn and grow.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Designing, building and maintaining BISim’s global network infrastructure
- Automating configuration management, change and deployment tasks
- Solving technical challenges, ensuring that we are able to move large volumes of data around the globe in an efficient, stable and timely manner
- Working with other BISim engineering teams on projects, ensuring that the network evolves to meet emergent needs
- Building effective, automated, methods of maintaining security standards and compliance
- Budgeting for effective purchases and utilization of network hardware and products
- Owning the relationship with network vendors
We’d like you to have experience with:
- Network design for globally distributed networks, with hybrid cloud components (AWS)
- Modern network administration - e.g. configuration management, automation, DevOps principles for networking, and “network as code” concepts
- Configuration management tooling such as Ansible, Netbox, or ManageEngine
- Network performance tuning
- Managing and maintaining a global Fortinet-based estate
- Managing Extreme switches
- Network security tooling & practices
- Mentoring and coaching team members
It would also be great if you have experience with:
- At least one DevOps-friendly programming language such as Python or Go
- VMWare
- Kubernetes
- Hardware from other network vendors such as Cisco, Arista and Juniper
