How You'll Make a Difference
As a Winter Nordic Instructor, you will ensure guests of all ages and abilities enjoy a safe, fun, and educational experience. You will teach lessons, manage student groups, provide guidance on equipment and techniques, and support the rental and sales operations as needed.
A Day in the Life
Throughout the day, you'll instruct program, group, and private lessons, adapt teaching methods to student abilities, assist supervisors, and maintain a safe, professional learning environment. Between lessons, you may work the rental or sales counter, answer phones, and complete required paperwork. By day's end, you'll leave knowing you contributed to memorable winter experiences for guests.

Essential Functions Of The Job
- Instruct program, group, and private lessons as assigned.
- Instruct students of any age or ability.
- Attend all assigned meetings and trainings.
- Greet students at meeting areas and assist supervisors in organizing classes.
- Create a safe, fun, and engaging learning environment.
- Promote safety by following safe practices and reporting any unsafe conditions.
- Adapt teaching methods to students' age, temperament, and desires.
- Follow sound presentation principles.
- Maintain a professional, friendly, and helpful attitude while interacting with students, guests, and staff.
- Conduct lessons for maximum positive outcome.
- Check-in for lesson assignments when required.
- Work the rental and sales counter when not teaching and complete other assigned tasks.
- Answer phones, work the register, and clean the lodge area.
- Complete all required paperwork: class cards, time sheets, incident reports, etc.
- Train for self-improvement (skiing/riding skills and teaching skills).
- Assist in preparing lesson plans for upcoming lessons.
- Perform other related tasks as necessary.
What You Bring to Bogus Basin
- Passionate about Bogus Basin's mission.
- Ability to work with people of all ages, especially children.
- Basic knowledge of Nordic skiing, skate and classic techniques.
- Must be able to ski comfortably and safely on blue terrain at moderate speeds.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions during stressful situations.
- Frequently required to stand, balance, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Ability to perform heavy work (exerting over 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, 20 pounds constantly).
- Position requires all movement and physical exertion commonly associated with skiing or fatbiking.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Majority of time spent in an outdoor environment.
- Employee may be exposed to extended periods working outdoors (4-6 hours or more).
- Regular exposure to inclement weather.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
- Schedule varies based on department needs and operating hours.
- Full-time employees: five shifts per week.
- Part-time employees: three shifts per week.
- Temporary employees: work during peak holiday periods.

- Black ski pants.
- Gloves or mittens, durable and in good repair.
- Thermal wear sufficient for warmth.
