BR&T is seeking a highly-motivated and energetic Materials & Processes Chemical Technology Manager to lead a Chemical Technology team within the BR&T facilities based out of North Charleston, South Carolina.

The manager will lead a team focused on EITHER paints, sealants and specialty coatings OR corrosion, inorganic surface treatments, and environmental sustainability – the best team fit will be determined based on candidate’s experience and background.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the team’s material and process development activities in the assigned technology areas.  If leading the Paints and Sealants Team, technologies will include surface cleaning, primers, decorative and non-decorative livery, weathering, paint automation, sealants, composite surface preparation, specialty coatings, and laser depainting. If leading the Corrosion and Surface Treatment Team, technologies will include light metal finishing, plating, corrosion prevention, hex-chrome elimination, and environmental regulation/sustainability activities.

  • Manage teammates across multiple sites – teammates may reside in North Charleston, SC; Huntsville, AL; St. Louis, Missouri; and/or Washington, DC.

  • Designate resources for projects and processes, provide technical management of team and lead process improvements around safety, quality, and productivity

  • Manage laboratories including equipment and work flow

  • Provide direction, oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes

  • Develop and execute project and process plans, implement policies and procedures and set operational goals

  • Pursue strategic partnerships and collaborate effectively with peer groups within BR&T, customers in Boeing Defense Systems (BDS) and Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA), and external technology service providers

  • Integrate the organization’s portfolio of projects to address short / mid / long-term technology objectives, ensure a balanced workload and optimize the implementation of results

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all people processes, participate in skills management, coach direct reports, and support the pursuit of a learning and professional growth environment for employees

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.  This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future. **Note: The expectation is to be in the office 3-4 days per work at the North Charleston, SC site.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

Basic Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • Experience leading and/or managing a team

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience within a chemical technology or material development focus area: paints, coatings, finishes, sealants, corrosion prevention, inorganic processes (light metal finishing, plating, etc.), or environmental sustainability

  • Experience working in a chemical laboratory or a chemical processing facility

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only.  Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range: $129,200 - $174,800
