Description

The Senior Trade Compliance & Logistics is responsible for the development and management of import processes, policies and procedures for the Ridgefield business. Providing guidance to employees and maintaining accurate and complete records. Ensuring compliance with US Customs Regulations. This is a critical role in protecting Boehringer Ingelheim against Custom's fines and penalties and the ability to import goods into the US.

Reviews exports to ensure schedule B, valuation and ECCN declaration are accurate to ensure compliant reporting to both US agencies upon export and foreign Customs agencies upon import. Provide backup support for the export program and export compliance.

Responsible for managing the CTPAT (Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) program for Boehringer Ingelheim.

Compensation Data

The base salary range for this position is $90,000.00 to $147,000.00 USD. The position may be eligible for a role specific discretionary bonus, relocation, and/or other compensation elements. We continuously review market data and may adjust salary ranges as needed in the future. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensures accurate completion of internal import forms
  • Assigns non‑chemical Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) numbers per U.S. Customs regulations and obtains chemical HTS codes from Boehringer Ingelheim chemists
  • Determines FDA product codes and ensures FDA end‑user letters or TSCA forms are created when required
  • Reviews and approves shipping documents for all incoming shipments to ensure accuracy
  • Verifies the need for USDA, CDC, or Fish & Wildlife permits and ensures permitted shipments meet all permit requirements
  • Provides complete instructions and required documentation to the Customs Broker
  • Monitors and records import transactions to maintain a meaningful historical record for decision‑making and audit support
  • Assists the Customs Broker in resolving clearance issues to ensure compliance with U.S. import regulations
  • Ensures the broker Power of Attorney remains current
  • Conducts annual reviews of broker SOPs and meets with the broker as issues arise to implement necessary compliance changes
  • Conducts monthly internal audits of import and export transactions and implements corrective actions
  • Drives continuous improvement in the timeliness and accuracy of Customs clearance
  • Reviews historical import data to identify potential duty savings and process improvements
  • Ensures local policies, procedures, SOPs, and desk procedures are reviewed annually per CTPAT requirements and updated promptly
  • Conducts ongoing training for the Site Logistics team responsible for import coverage
  • Manages training rollout for company‑wide Learning One Source programs
  • Reviews export documentation and assigns non‑chemical Schedule B numbers
  • Ensures accurate valuation, coordinating with colleagues in Germany for clarification when needed
  • Conducts ECCN reviews and escalates potential licensable shipments
  • Reviews Schedule B and valuation processes for improvement opportunities
  • Manages the CTPAT program, including vendor risk assessments, mitigation planning, and oversight of third‑party risk assessment software to ensure CBP compliance
  • Coordinates the annual security plan review and update in accordance with CTPAT requirements
  • Coordinates CBP re‑validations with internal teams
  • Monitors security criteria and recommends process improvements
  • Creates and maintains local employee training and disseminates CTPAT program information to management and other OPUs
  • Conducts CTPAT‑required risk assessments
  • Completes the Boehringer Ingelheim Annual Internal Control and Test Plan
  • Completes the data collection form and supporting documentation for the Ridgefield site and submits it to Trade Compliance
  • Provides written supporting documentation as needed for compliance audits


Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree, Business Administration or Finance
  • Three to five (3-5) years’ experience with Customs compliance and importation issues preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and SAP
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to demonstrate superior organization skills and attention to details


Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
