Director of Virtual and Blended Learning (Grades 6-12)

The Director of Virtual and Blended Learning provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for all secondary virtual education programs (Grades 6-12). This role is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of both synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous (self-paced) instructional models. Additionally, the Director will spearhead the district's Blended Learning initiatives, coordinate the Short-Term Academic Program (STAP), and serve as the primary advisor for Oklahoma graduation pathways.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Program Leadership & Virtual Instruction

  • Oversee the daily operations of the 6-12 Virtual Academy, ensuring high-quality instruction across all digital platforms.
  • Manage a diverse curriculum that supports both synchronous (live teacher-led) and asynchronous (independent) learning environments.
  • Monitor student engagement, attendance, and academic progress within the virtual sphere, implementing interventions when necessary.
  • Lead the integration of Blended Learning models within traditional classrooms to create a seamless transition between in-person and digital instruction.

2. Academic Advising & Graduation Pathways

  • Provide expert guidance to students and families regarding Oklahoma Graduation Requirements.
  • Manage and monitor Individual Career and Academic Plans (ICAP) for all virtual students to ensure college and career readiness.
  • Advise students on the new "Pathway Units" (HB 3278) and align virtual course selections with student career interests and state competencies.
  • Coordinate with high school counselors to ensure credits earned in virtual/blended settings transfer accurately toward graduation.
  • Coordinate academic progress and attendance with building leadership to ensure eligibility in accordance with OSSAA and district eligibility policies.

3. Short-Term Academic Program (STAP) Management

  • Supervise the district’s Short-Term Academic Program, providing educational continuity for students who are temporarily unable to attend traditional classes (e.g., medical leave, disciplinary placement, or transitional needs).
  • Develop individualized learning plans for STAP students to prevent learning loss and facilitate a smooth return to their primary learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Certification: Valid Oklahoma Standard Teaching Certificate; Oklahoma Building-Level Administrator Certificate (Elementary or Secondary) or a Certificate in School Counseling. 
  • Experience: * Minimum of 3–5 years of successful classroom teaching experience.
    • Prior experience in virtual school administration or blended learning implementation is highly preferred.
    • Deep familiarity with Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) graduation requirements and ICAP mandates.

  • Adaptability: Ability to pivot between the administrative needs of a long-term virtual academy and the urgent needs of a short-term academic program.
  • Empathy & Vision: A commitment to providing equitable access to technology and high-quality instruction for all students, regardless of their learning environment.
