Power Engineer

BODEC, Inc.
Schertz, TX Full Time
POSTED ON 10/24/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/22/2026

Please note; this role is based in San Antonio!

BODEC, Inc. is a leading EPC contractor specializing in power infrastructure projects across the western United States. From substations and transmission and distribution systems to renewable energy and heavy industrial facilities, we deliver custom-engineered electrical solutions for utilities, municipalities, and industrial clients.

We are seeking a Power Engineer to join our San Antonio office. This position is ideal for an engineer with several years of experience in power systems or substation engineering who enjoys seeing designs become reality in the field. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, has obtained or is working toward EIT certification, and is looking to build a career in an EPC environment where engineering and construction work hand in hand. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys collaborating with project managers, superintendents, and field crews to solve real-world challenges and deliver critical power infrastructure.  It is not a good fit for someone seeking a purely theoretical or research-focused engineering position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop physical substation layouts, grounding plans, and medium and high voltage electrical designs for utility and industrial power projects.
  • Prepare one-line diagrams, schematic drawings, and protection and control documentation.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including grounding analysis, short-circuit studies, load flow analysis, AC station service, and DC battery sizing.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, and construction teams to ensure designs are practical, constructible, and meet project requirements.
  • Support equipment selection, material procurement, and technical reviews throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and project closeout, including resolving technical issues in the field.
  • Participate in client meetings and collaborate with internal project teams to deliver safe, high-quality power infrastructure projects on schedule.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Approximately 3 to 5 years of experience in power engineering, substation design, transmission and distribution, or a related field.
  • EIT certification, or actively pursuing licensure.
  • Working knowledge of substation design principles and electrical distribution systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret AutoCAD drawings. (CAD drafting experience is not required.)
  • Experience with ETAP, Bluebeam, or similar engineering software is a plus.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary
  • 9 paid holidays
  • PTO accrual; graded schedule for years of service
  • 401(k) matching
  • Insurance benefit package - Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability
  • Profit share eligibility on jobs worked
