Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Chef to lead our culinary operations in Galloway, NJ. This role is vital in ensuring our clients receive nutritious, appealing meals that support their recovery journey. The Head Chef will oversee meal planning, preparation, and kitchen staff management, maintaining the highest standards of food quality and safety in a healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Culinary Operations
- Plan, prepare, and oversee the production of meals that meet clients' nutritional needs and dietary restrictions.
- Ensure all food is presented attractively, with appropriate garnishes and decorations.
- Inspect raw and cooked food items to verify quality, freshness, and compliance with safety standards.
- Monitor food inventory and assist with maintaining adequate supplies, including perishables and meat products.
Food Safety & Sanitation
- Enforce strict sanitation and hygiene practices, in alignment with health regulations and internal protocols.
- Ensure kitchen staff comply with all safety guidelines, including those related to food handling and cleanliness.
Team Collaboration
- Foster a professional and respectful work environment across kitchen and interdisciplinary teams.
- Attend all required staff meetings and actively contribute to a collaborative workplace culture.
Client Services
- Deliver exceptional customer service to both internal departments and external guests.
- Demonstrate tact and sensitivity to clients’ needs, including responding to last-minute dietary requests and managing food sensitivities or aversions.
General Expectations
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the administrative team.
- Exhibit proper social etiquette and maintain professionalism at all times.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Prior experience in food service within a healthcare setting or large group catering environment is essential.
- Education & Certification (any one of the following):
- Graduate of a dietetic technician or assistant program accredited by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (www.cdrnet.org); or
- Completion of a minimum 90-hour food service supervision course approved by the New Jersey Department of Education, plus one year of full-time supervisory experience in a healthcare food service setting in consultation with a dietitian; or
- Equivalent training and experience in food service supervision and management through military service programs.
